I reset everything by verifying the steam files and it seemed to work as I was able to reach the checkpoint now, but i bought the game on PC (on the recent sale) so I could play it with the mod.
Noticed on Moddb that others were complaining about the game crashing at this point in older versions, but didn't see any solutions.
I'll try reinstalling the mod later, but I too would appreciate any suggestions.
If acm is crashing at the same point AND you are running Templar mod, you need to try and play unmodded and see if crash still happens.
If you prove it only happens in modded version, I would suggest you look for Templars old threads here to find his most recent version of the mod - last I heard from him he worked out the last few issues annoying him and i think he was ready to call his acm mod efforts a day.
Having done a bit of searching, there does seem to be an issue with the mod and this particular part of the game, for some people. Something to do with the Master effects and that particular door / room, or whatever. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any definitive solutions, some say that you need to turn your graphical settings way down, but it didn't work for me. It looks like other people were having a similar problem with other levels too.
I've decided to leave the mod for now and I've just been playing the vanilla version - except with the hud toggle and the simple alien ai fix detailed here:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/templargfxs-acm-overhaul/news/the-biggest-bug-in-the-game-is-just-one-letter-long.
Been working fine so far. I may return to the mod later but it's quite enjoyable to me as is tbh.
Interesting. I have reinstalled the game, and I plan to try it again tonight. I'll report back and let you guys know if it works. Thanks for the good advice Waldo and Wellen. Like I said, I really want to like this game. I just watched Aliens with my son last night, and he LOVED it. It took me right back to my childhood. I want to really play this so bad.
Side note: now having played it without Templar's mod, I am shocked at the difference in graphics quality. I never tried the game without Termplar's mod, I suppose, and I forgot how old this game was.
I think you're upset about some things and you should go talk to someone about it. I'm sorry you feel the way you do. But the game is broken as ballz. Sorry pal.
Wow, what a problem solver. Since the game works fine on your computer it must work fine on everyone's computer and if it doesn't they are just sore losers looking for a reason to hate the game.
Nice necro gg
I'm sorry. The game worked for me after getting rid of the mod. Something to try: find your steam game files (in program files, steam apps, all of that), and after you uninstall Colonial Marines, go to the Steam games folder and delete the Colonial Marines folder. At least for me, even when I uninstall, Steam leaves the folder there with some info in it. I've found I need to delete those folders to undo mods.
So, uninstall. Go to c drive-->program files-->steam-->steamapps-->common and then delete the Colonial Marines folder. Do a fresh install, verify its integrity (maybe), and see if it works. But I get the frustration.
I hope that works.
I tried installing on a different drive just incase the mod hadn't left anything on the drive i installed it on, it didn't work.
I even downloaded a pirate version, just to make sure it wasn't Steam related, that version wouldn't load either.
It seems i will never be playing the game until i get a new PC in the future lol.
I knew i should of installed the mod manually instead of using the exe, oh well.
