Still crashing
So as I mentioned before (no responses), I bought this game before and refunded. I decided to try it again because I want to like it, but it's crashing in EXACTLY the same spot about five minutes in.

Right after I cut down a marine from some webbing (Keyes?), he goes and opens a door, and we go in the door. The game stutters, then crashes to desktop. No matter what I've done. Any ideas?

Having the same problem. Was running TemplarGFX v5 and was fine until following the marine into the smokey room. Crashed at that exact point three times in a row.

I reset everything by verifying the steam files and it seemed to work as I was able to reach the checkpoint now, but i bought the game on PC (on the recent sale) so I could play it with the mod.

Noticed on Moddb that others were complaining about the game crashing at this point in older versions, but didn't see any solutions.

I'll try reinstalling the mod later, but I too would appreciate any suggestions.

Yeah, I can't find a solution. This is nuts. I'm going to try a clean install with no mods. No one around here seems to know anything? I have nearly an hour logged on this game--and it's all troubleshooting.

Just so you don't feel ignored...

If acm is crashing at the same point AND you are running Templar mod, you need to try and play unmodded and see if crash still happens.

If you prove it only happens in modded version, I would suggest you look for Templars old threads here to find his most recent version of the mod - last I heard from him he worked out the last few issues annoying him and i think he was ready to call his acm mod efforts a day.

The game works perfectly, played it multiple times on each difficulty, never once ran into a bug, crash or whatever case anyone is experiencing. including multiplayer. I played it in it's original state and it still looks and plays far better than any mod could ever offer. people just looking for an excuse to hate this game. it's sad really and pathetic.

Having done a bit of searching, there does seem to be an issue with the mod and this particular part of the game, for some people. Something to do with the Master effects and that particular door / room, or whatever. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any definitive solutions, some say that you need to turn your graphical settings way down, but it didn't work for me. It looks like other people were having a similar problem with other levels too.

I've decided to leave the mod for now and I've just been playing the vanilla version - except with the hud toggle and the simple alien ai fix detailed here:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/templargfxs-acm-overhaul/news/the-biggest-bug-in-the-game-is-just-one-letter-long.

Been working fine so far. I may return to the mod later but it's quite enjoyable to me as is tbh.

Interesting. I have reinstalled the game, and I plan to try it again tonight. I'll report back and let you guys know if it works. Thanks for the good advice Waldo and Wellen. Like I said, I really want to like this game. I just watched Aliens with my son last night, and he LOVED it. It took me right back to my childhood. I want to really play this so bad.

All right! Without Templar's mod installed, I passed that area!! So I quit the game to come and report, then I got the dreaded unending restart bug. Urg. So I'm going to try and mod the game with the restart fix and see if it remains stable.

Side note: now having played it without Templar's mod, I am shocked at the difference in graphics quality. I never tried the game without Termplar's mod, I suppose, and I forgot how old this game was.

I think you're upset about some things and you should go talk to someone about it. I'm sorry you feel the way you do. But the game is broken as ballz. Sorry pal.

Wow, what a problem solver. Since the game works fine on your computer it must work fine on everyone's computer and if it doesn't they are just sore losers looking for a reason to hate the game.

Wow my game crashed at the EXACT same spot with the mod. I thought forget it, i'll play without the mod. So i uninstalled the mod, uninstalled the game, installed the game again, and..... the game wont load, it just crashes. Verified the files but nothing. Its like part of the mod is left behind somewhere and messing with the game but i dont know what to do ffs!

I'm sorry. The game worked for me after getting rid of the mod. Something to try: find your steam game files (in program files, steam apps, all of that), and after you uninstall Colonial Marines, go to the Steam games folder and delete the Colonial Marines folder. At least for me, even when I uninstall, Steam leaves the folder there with some info in it. I've found I need to delete those folders to undo mods.

So, uninstall. Go to c drive-->program files-->steam-->steamapps-->common and then delete the Colonial Marines folder. Do a fresh install, verify its integrity (maybe), and see if it works. But I get the frustration.

I hope that works.

Thanks for the advice buddy, but i had already done all that before i even made that post. I looked in the Steam folders, in AppData, i even did a file search and deleted anything ACM related, it didn't help.
I tried installing on a different drive just incase the mod hadn't left anything on the drive i installed it on, it didn't work.
I even downloaded a pirate version, just to make sure it wasn't Steam related, that version wouldn't load either.
It seems i will never be playing the game until i get a new PC in the future lol.
I knew i should of installed the mod manually instead of using the exe, oh well.

I'm sorry--I hope you get it working soon.

I have the Mod installed and had the same problem, but after saying a prayer and playing a coop campaign with a friend I was able to get through this part of the game (weird thing is I was hosting). The game crashed a few other times through out the campaign either for me or my friend (mostly my friend) but after he reconnected (or if I crashed reloaded the game) we were able to get by the problem spot. The game seemed to get more and more stable the further we went along the campaign. The Dlc campaign worked much better it only crashed once if at all. I hope this helps because the game really is alot of fun when it works. Oh and one last thing the game seem to be more stable when playing through the campaign screen and not individual missions
