Um... Why do people not like this game?
So I was desperate for the Colonial Marines vs. Aliens experience. I had heard nothing but the absolute worst about this game, leading me to believe it was an absolute nightmare. This lead me to buy it on sale, I figured "Hey, I'm only risking 9 dollars."

I set my controls, got into the firing range and I was instantaneously impressed by the gameplay. It was very very solid, and I had high hopes for how the game would be. Those high hopes were not dashed.

What I was expecting was some mild COD ripoff gameplay and style storytelling, which usually I hate but it wasn't about to deter me considering this is one of the few Alien themed games out there that any real effort was put into. I was also expecting massive amounts of glitches, and non-alien like behavior from the Aliens based on what people had said. The COD ripoff gameplay and storytelling were there, but were there in a very tasteful amount. This felt like a proper tribute to the film Aliens. What wasn't there were all the glitches people were talking about, and the non-alien like behavior. Aliens swarmed you, they were deadly, they were badass, they transitioned from surface to surface, I saw all the things I wanted to see from them. The game also has a lot of good things, two coop campaigns with support for 4 players, lots of good multiplayer modes once you're done with that. The game is extremely good if you aren't a big fan of Aliens and it's truly GREAT if you are.

So my question is, why in the heck did everybody give up on this game so quickly? Obviously Gearbox patched the crap out of it. Why is the multiplayer dead? Why does everybody seem to hate this game so damn much?

I just completed the campaign tonight, and in my opinion, even the story was good for the base campaign at least, which was something even the people with positive opinions did not like about it. I think I'll write a positive review of the game, but I don't think it'll help it much.

One of those games where they promise a lot more than they deliver. Got beaten handily by Isolation. Hell, got beaten handily by a game that released before it: Aliens vs Predator. I.E, earlier games did it better, and it didn't live up to anything.

One of the major complaints is that gameplay graphics didn't match that of the trailers, which were gorgeously retouched or seemingly rendered separately before game release. Resulting graphics seemed outdated when compared to then-current releases. AI on the Xenos and companion NPCs were buggy at release, predominantly since patched.

One could say that by the time the game was released, most of the major tropes of this genre had already been covered, imitated, and homaged in other games sometimes to equivalent or even better immersive effect. If a trend-setter doesn't "strike while the iron is hot," others can and will commandeer the forge.

I have played Aliens vs. Predator and I greatly preferred this to that games Marine Campaign which doesn't even have un-modded coop(and modded coop is glitchy as hell)

This review should give you an idea of why people hated on it when it was new, still not played it myself and I purchased the boxed special edition on release.
I might just play through it soon though.

Actually A:CM have got a mixed reviews, steam database gives 4K positive ones vs 3k of negatives.Aside this main potential A:CM gives in Vs Multiplayer with full-lobby party with experienced players while the most of newbies haven't patience to spend enough time to get at least basic skills.

The diminished graphics are good news for me and a lot of people in fact. My computer isn't state of the art, so that just means I can play it. Like I said, other than that, the game is nothing but good. Too bad it wasn't given a chance, it needs a resurgence.

You REALLY need to look back at the forums at launch and you will find out why so MANY have a bad taste with this game.
It wasnt given a chance because it failed to deliver in almost everythng that it was claimed it was going to be or was, this together with the underhandedness of Gearbox with the development.

Look at the debut gameplay and then the final version of the game. Visually speaking, the two are day and night to each other.

In terms of gameplay, this was not the Colonial Marines experience I was hoping for. You fight human soldiers far more than you do Xenos and the times you do fight Xenos, they are practically braindead as they just run straight into you line of sight with few times doing something you would have seen from the films like crawling around surroundings at lightning fast speed and using intellengence.

Companion A.I. is no better as they would stand in your way, blocking you you from progressing further or just die too quickly.

Last I heard this game from approved by Fox and is cannon to the films.

"You fight human soldiers far more than you do Xenos" THAT is not true. I was worried that would be the case when I first fought the WY soldiers, but I found that there seemed to be much more Alien encounters. I don't know if it was changed, but there is plenty more alien combat than WY combat.

True, Companion A.I. is no good, but last I checked in Call of Duty type games companion A.I. is NEVER good. The game was meant to be played in coop.

Keep coming back and playing this as it is just fun to play and that is what ultimately counts. Alot of initial hate was also from players which didn't realise gun play improved with upgrades and were supposed to be somewhat crappy (accuracy etc.) at the beginning until you had the credits to add components and improve each weapon. Even the many guns available were sometimes forgotten or not used for their intended purpose.

it was actualy decent at launch. not anywhere near what was promised but i had some fun with it. it was good enough for a single playthrough at least although not good enough i would have recommended it. since then its changed so much as too be quite a bit different. i started a game not long ago on the hardest difficulty after not having played since around the time it came out. quickly discovered it was super easy now and a majority of the level was removed making it much shorter. quite disapointing yet again. avp2 was the best one. i wish that was for sale on here and working on windows 10. i lost a lot of games that must have been lost moving or something and thats one of them. i miss that one.

People are stupid beause of graphic bad games are made...this game like not the best AI i see but isnt bad at all comapre to COD. Because of bad review and sh1t gen playstacion 3 youtubers ♥♥♥♥ the FEAR 2, the graphic are 1 of 4 aways need be valued (History,Sound and gameplay). this game is good, have nice game play! AVP3 have better history true but is so linear and borring, because u already know u are alone and need be the super soldier do all sh1t alone...Here u have team.

I still have no idea why it got so much hate. The only thing I missed was an alien campaign but other than that it is such a good game.
