Is Rockman 8 the worst of the series?
It's very childish. The sound effects, the stages, the enemies, everything feels like it came straight out of a cartoon for little kids.

For gameplay, it's probably the worst and most annoying Rockman from 1-10. Instead of being a normal platformer where you run, jump, slide, and shoot things with your buster like in other games, in 8 all the stages are so gimmicky like you have to ride a snowboard, a moving platform on lava, a toy train, walking time bombs, and all the other stuffs you can ride in this damn game. And some stage even turned into a bullet hell game where you ride on Rush for the entire stage.

The voice acting is complete garbage, even in Japanese.

And I noticed that Rockman calls himself "boku" and calls his rival (Forte) "kimi".

Who the hell calls his enemy "kimi"? How can you be taken seriously?

Well first.... there's a flaw in your boku-kimi thing. That being that "who the hell calls their rival" something doesn't really work when Rockman doesn't consider Forte a rival at all... and you even evidence that with the quote you're complaining about... he literally says he doesn't want to fight him. That kind of answered your own question?

Next point... it's supposed to be cartoonish. The entire series is actually cartoonish, always has been. MM8 just really let them put detail on that aesthetic. Look at MM7 and how the graphics slowly became more and more apparent this way between 6, 7 and 8. MM9 and 10 returned to an NES graphical style but the cutscenes pointedly keep the aesthetic going.

As for an opinion on the game, mine falls in line with Jirard:

7 wasn't that childish though, while the SNES was capable to do as much as 8 (except for voice over). They also toned down the childishness a lot in Rockman 11.

In 8, it's childish in every aspect. The way he runs, and all the sound effects like the shooting sound, picking up items, explosive sounds, etc.

Oh and the sounds these green bubbles made. This game makes me feel like watching some cartoon for toddlers on Cartoon Network.

You are kinda interjecting "Childish" in the weird correlation that cartoons mean childish. Not really a great stance for a guy who's professed to enjoy an anime or two in his time. :/

Not all cartoons are childish. But RM8 is clearly too childish. There're cartoons for teens, but this game is more like a cartoon for kindergartens.

That's your opinion, you're entitled to it, but I disagree sir.

theoretically spoken yes, 8 was the worst received of the 11 (12) classic series games

there are a lot of people that like 8 but most would rate it as the weakest of all classic games

I'd call 8 the 3rd worst. At least it tried something different. 5 is the worst. It's bland, the robot masters suck, the soundtrack is boring, and I have no desire to ever replay it. 3 is the 2nd worst, the Doc Robot stages and poorly boring Wily Stages drag it down.

It's very likely 8 assigned different stages to different artists.

Brilliance like Frost Man's cityscape, is contrasted with other stages' misuse of bold and pastel colors.

8 is very middling. But not bad by any means. 7 is far worse.

Mega Man 7 is the worst game in the classic seriesIf you ignore the travesty that is Mega Man & Bass due to it being released after Mega Man X1 & X2.

I wouldn't say it's the worst, but it's the most uninspired game. You easily forget it.

While it is one of my least fav ones, I still do think the game is good enough. Nothing I would call bad.

The snowboarding sections are bad (and control bad), the fact that rush is pretty much pointless , the slow movement speed and a few stages are just boring or drag out too much.

But in the end its stil something that I wouldn't call bad cause it does have (outside of the board sections) good control , beautiful graphics , good levels (again half are boring half are good) .

Its no megaman 9 and 10 though. Those are pretty mucht the perfection of classic megaman design. With that said I do like it more than 3, that is imo the most overrated game in the franchise.

My list would be something like

9-10 > 1 > 4 > 2 > 7 > 6 > 5 > bass > 8 > 3

Good to see that there are some people here that agree that Mega Man 3 isn't very good. It's overrated, the Wily stages are too easy and the Doc Robot stages are pointless.

I was always surprised that the assets (graphical art style) of MM7 wasn't used again.
