Is there a sandbox mode / free play?

Since I really like games like this, I'm thinking about buying Galacticare. However, I don't like being tied to campaigns and prefer free play. Is there a sandbox in Galacticare, so you can play freely?

You unlock sandbox mode for each map after completing it in story mode.

With that said "completing" a map in story mode is extremely easy and overall sandbox is actually harder across the board (in story you have limited amount of diseases per level, in sandbox not so much).

You also unlock "sandbox" type maps as you progress.
