Is it Praey or Prey?
I'm confused. Steam lists it as "Praey for the Gods" but the promo pictures say "Prey for the Gods."

Legally its Praey because Bethesda tried to sue for copyright infringement with they Prey game. so the devs changed it to Praey.
Sound like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, there was already a game named Prey before bethesda made their game.
And you cant sue someone for using a word like Prey.
You are incredibly naive

This is as silly as Final fantasy having the word fantasy in their name and doing the same thing bethesda did.

There needs to be some legalities created to protect Indie developers. The act of flexing and backing another company into a corner because you have "money" without legal cause should be a crime in itself.

However its becoming so common these days. I hope theres a change to the system and time comes to em all and they get sued out the arse when there is protections
(Cause F em all) Take two and Rockstar too - F em

Honestly picking on smaller developers. (gotta stoop so low to do it)

Bethesda sued Mojang for using 'Scrolls' as a name... Let that sink in. Bethesda(and Zenimax, it's the same company for all intents and purposes) is an horrible, horrible company.

The funny part is they wanted to call the series Fighting Fantasy but it was taken and they couldn't risk being sued back than XD

it's a word play. the letter the use in "praey" is a mixture of the nordic rune for "A" and the latin letter "E" -> so you pray for the god, but also prey for the gods

I like to think of it as having two meanings. I know it's probably legal issues, as funny as that sounds. However I am NOT shocked either. Legal crap like that happens all the time, sadly. And the legal fees cost alone is enough to put someone out of business straight-up. You don't even HAVE to win cause you simply crush the other side in legal fees. At which point it's a matter of who can last the longest financially in court - The huge company, or the little indie-studio. Take a guess how that plays out...

So yes, if messing around with the name of the game keeps all that from happening, then anyone would easily take that route without question. No shame in that. Put that shame on the one doing the suing at that point.

Remember, folks! Games Workshop tried to copyright the actual word "Elf" in court. Doesn't get much lower than that..... Unless you consider the time Wizards of the Coast went after Yugioh for using "Magic" cards lol

Agreed, suing for "Elf" is as low as you can get. Considering it's part of mythology\religion, it shouldn't be possible to be copyrigthed. Same as Thor(which iirc, is actually trademarked by Marvel\Disney when it comes to movies\comics, which is absolutely ridiculous for the same reason, may as well trademark 'jesus' or 'god').

I know of two Bethesda disputes, Mojang for 'Scrolls', and this one for 'Prey'. But Bethesda is, and has been a scummy ♥♥♥♥♥♥ company since it's founder was forced out back in '99.

Yeah maybe Bethesda buying the tademark for specifically this game from 2006 is the reason... That's why they threatened legal action.

As for your second statement (the one where you claim to know that you can't sue for using the word "prey"): Of course you can. That's what a trademark is for, among other things. You must be new to the world.

Not defending Bethesda here. But seeing wannabe lawyers explain the world is always fun.

It's both pray for the gods and prey for the gods ... so yeah, praey for the gods

The "E" in "Prey" looks like the Ansuz rune ( the rune for A ) but with an extra line at the bottom, that might have somwthing to do with it!
