The Thrill of the Fight

Vive trackers
How well does this game work with vive trackers?
Would it work better if they were placed on the back of the hand or wrist?

Getting vive trackers because something keeps getting shaken loose in my vive controllers

The game should work great with Vive trackers in theory. I've intentionally made it so no button presses are ever needed, and you can calibrate how your controller is positioned compared to your gloves to accommodate non-standard controllers or non-standard ways to hold controllers.

I've actually tried this before, but I had poor results with it. It wasn't because of the game, but because my Vive trackers were losing tracking like crazy. I think I had signal interference issues between the trackers and their wireless receivers, which were sitting right next to a 2.4Ghz router.

If you do give it a try, I think you need the controllers to be off and the trackers turned on when TotF starts for the game to favor them over your controllers. There may also be something you need to change in the SteamVR configuration for the game to look for them as if they were controllers.

You can do either hand or wrist - whichever works better for you. If you put them on your wrist, the game won't be able to see your hand movement when you flex your wrist, but TotF in general works better if you don't flex your wrist, so that might actually be a hidden benefit. I'd go with whatever one you can secure the tracker tighter with, and then I'd actually wrap my wrists or use something like these[www.everlast.com] to keep your wrists straighter (and just for the fun of it!). I tried it both with those gloves and also with wrapped wrists and actual boxing gloves, and it was really fun when I could get the tracking to work. I used TrackStraps[rebuffreality.com] to secure the trackers to my hands.

One other thing to note is that the trackers don't have any haptic feedback, so you will lose that.
Brilliant! Thanks for the detailed answer.

Loving the game btw

EDIT:

Definitely need controllers to be off.
Tracking occasionally becomes janky but recovers quickly as well.

Major issue is with getting the calibration to work right. If I'm using my right fist to calibrate, I need to place my fist slightly to the left of the in game's image.

ANOTHER EDIT:

I got my trackstrap and played a few games with it. It definitely made the tracking a LOT worse.
Up until now, I've been tying my tracker to my hands/wrists with paracord and difference in tracking quality is massive. I wonder if the vive trackers actually jiggle at the end of punches which is causing the tracking difficulties.

Calibration is no longer an issue as long as drift protection is off when it is calibrating

I know this is an old thread, so idk if the dev is still looking into using the trackers for this game, but I think it would be amazing if they could get them to work. I'm not sure if it's signal interference like you mentioned, but when I use my trackers it's like the calibration is off in some crazy way, because I will just rotate my wrist/hand and the tracker will fly at least a foot or so in a different direction.

I've tried different calibration settings in the game, and I have also tried the custom calibration, as well as placing the trackers in different positions on my hands/wrists. Some calibration settings seem to track better than others for whatever reason, but they wont be centered on the original position.

Also note that my trackers work fine and are steady in steamVR/other games they are compatible in. I use 3 of the newer versions of the tower base stations on an Index headset for reference. Tracking is perfect with controllers.

P.S. This game is amazing and sparked an unfounded love for boxing in me. Thank you for all the time and work gone into it!
