Uppercuts
Uppercuts seem to be very difficult to get to land correctly in game. Is there a trick to throwing them that I may be missing? I can get them to land on the heavy bag and boxing dummy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Agreed - uppercuts are difficult to land in TOTF. To be fair, it's similar to IRL boxing in that uppercuts are more difficult punches to land cleanly and also can be risky (very susceptible to a counter when throwing an uppercut).

First of all - keep trying! Uppercuts are super useful punches. I find when I do land an uppercut clean on the chin, it doesn't even have to be hard to be a knockdown.

Second, you need the opponent to open or lower their guard to make space for an uppercut to sneak through. Hooks to the head work well, as do body punches. If you land a couple of hooks to the head, the opponent's guard will open and give you a chance for the uppercut. Harder still, draw out a punch from your opponent by leaning your head in, then slip/pull and counter with the uppercut. This is MUCH harder to do.

Third, I find the distance for the uppercut is really difficult. I either hit the chest (not so terrible), bang into an elbow or shoulder with no damage (not good), or worst, miss completely and then get clobbered with a counter.

I have found "corkscrew" style uppercuts to be more effective in TOTF. This Prince Naseem video is a nice example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFcjljY1_rQ

Infighting feels (to me) less realistic in TOTF, so I find I need to throw longer range uppercuts than I would IRL boxing. I've had much less success with footwork/head movement driven uppercuts a-la Tyson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGNV2RKcFFI

I'm going to keep trying though.

@Ian - NOTHING here is a criticism of the game. To the contrary, I'm amazed at how realistic you have made this with the tools available. I can totally understand why realistic infighting is really hard for VR and the methods I describe are above are exactly what I would teach someone - open the guard with hooks and body punches, then come back with uppercuts and straight punches down the middle. Boxing 101 - they can't block everything.

Noticed that too. However i think that i just suck at the technic and can't hit right. Sometimes in the fight i manage to get few through though.

Yeah, no crit from me also. As Yoshinyc said, i also ususally hit the lower chest area when i try to use uppercut, on dummy and on opponent, but i still think it's more of an hitting technic problem than a game mechanic problem. I must mention still, that on irl fitnes boxing the uppercutting has felt easier. :D

Thanks yoshinyc and everyone else. I will continue to work on the technique and see if I can land a few!

Like every other punch, know your range (it is much shorter). Then when you find a comfortable range, work with your knees to turn it into a power uppercut.
I was about to make a thread here about uppercut difficulty. They would be the most satisfying punches to land as nothing feels as impactful as a nice uppercut. I wish they were easier to pull off. I barely even try them anymore as I don't expect them to work. );

Maybe there could be some game options such as to reduce the opponent's glove size or to space out their hands more when defending, to make uppercuts easier. It wouldn't need to make the game much easier as there could be a risk of counter-attacks when uppercutting.
I really can't land power uppercuts in super close range consistently on the chin but I hit them with ease at any other distance.
Then again I play with small gloves to replicate 10-12oz gloves irl.

Practice on Luis as he is smaller and tends to get inside more. Also more aggressive. This will help you find your uppercut range especially if you want to go between fighters too. Once you find your range, try on Reverend, then Artist.

I’ll try it, thanks 😄

I've finally figured it out. It involves opening them up (just like would irl). I'll usually hit the opponent's ribs with a few right hooks, causing them to defend there. Then I'll start hooking/crossing the head. They will typically bring the gloves up to defend the temples and I can generally slip a nice power uppercut in on their chin (close range). I land the uppercut nearly every-time I throw it, but it's generally a crap-shoot whether it hits them right on the button (chin) or in the solar plexus. Either way equates to pretty good results. If it connects with the chin it's generally always a red strike, but will only drop them roughly 30% of the time. If it doesn't a couple crosses to the chin or some nasty hooks/overhand rights will put em down.
Be good to have a feature to replay our fights from the side so we can see why we’re missing some of these swings. Maybe a rewindfeature to immediately play back a punch you just made and see it from a different angle.

If there's one thing that this game doesn't do well with AI is mitigating damage. The AI doesn't do well to adjust against damaging punches. It covers up where it was last hit until their "armor" returns. So you can string certain combos quite easily (hook, uppercut or cross, hook). The only time you can string combos of the same punch type is when it's switch from head to body (uppercuts being the exception).

Start streaming and put the in-game window to camera/ringside view on the small window while with mirror window stream you stream the 1st person view. After the live stream (at least in Twitch) you can watch the vod as a replay. I know it's a big workaround but it's something. Although i think there's also a only vodding option for non streamed gameplay recording in Obs/slobs.

I started doing this, and it has been extremely helpful.
