I did want to say, though, that I actually do have a build of TotF that works on Quest. I will be submitting a concept pitch to Oculus soon, but I actually don't think it's that likely they'll approve me. If they don't, I'd still like to give people access to the Quest version of TotF somehow, but I'm going to make sure I do so in a way that doesn't put me on Oculus's bad side. So with that said, don't count on TotF on Quest, but I'm trying!
It works pretty well on Quest, but the inside-out tracking can cause some problems due to losing controller tracking when they're too close to your face. You can get around it pretty easily by holding your hands a little farther from your head than you would in real life, but that may mess with your muscle memory if you also train in real life.
While you pitch for approval, and if they ask, definitely tell them that some Quest users out there would be more than happy to pay twice the price of Creed to have a go at your game ^^
People are speculating quest is next.
Same here mate.
A bit off topic, but I Just received my Oculus yesterday and playing Creed. It's a nice experience, mind, but so frustrating as for the limitation the devs force onto you (like placement around your target even if you make the effort to setting up a large Guardian space, etc.)
I also experienced a fair amount of the fists tracking issue that everyone is ranting about and I totally get it now - so annoying!
In other words, I"m quite looking forward to trying Thrill of the Fight as I'm sure it will be a completely different story :)
It's basically just the PC version, but without wires. My super indie graphics don't look the best on the PC, but they translate nearly 1:1 to the Quest.
The tracking loss can be noticeably annoying at times, but if the tracking update Oculus said they're going to release works as well as good as everyone is saying the update for the Rift S was, then the Quest version will probably end up being the best version of TotF.
Re: ALVR, I can't speak to it directly, as I'm currently using Virtual Desktop for wireless PCVR streaming. Also, my TOTF is the Oculus store version so I have to use Revive to try to get it to work with SteamVR. Sadly, it's one of the few games that doesn't work for me with Virtual Desktop (the window opens on my computer but it freezes and won't move). Not sure if anyone else is getting it to work on Virtual Desktop or ALVR?
Hi sdmpv,
I've been playing both creed and Box VR for the past couple of days and this tracking issue is bad. At first, when reading about this issue online, I thought people were just being a bit picky - turns out it's awfully frustrating, especially the right hand that is just all over the place way too often.
I've just sent a ticket to the Oculus support team to add up to their pile. Wherever their team is located, I really hope they're scrambling right now to release a proper fix.
It's about the original Touch controllers, but I wouldn't be surprised if it applies to the new Touch controllers for the Rift S and Quest, too, since they main portion of them is about the same as the old ones.
That won't fix the tracking issues caused by the cameras, but it may help with some of those right hand problems you're noticing.
So i tried to run steamVR wirelessly through different apps yesterday. Hoping I could a get a glimpse of TotF. Here's the result:
- ALVR: Got stuck with the NVENC error at server launch due to my graphic card not being supported (Geforce GT 635)
- Riftcat: I managed to access Steam VR but the lag was so enormous that It's definitely not worth it (and believe me, i was ready to make loads of concessions lag-wise) -
I think it all comes down to poor hardware, as my bandwidth is pretty strong.
I spent hours trying to figure things out and ended with one simple result : failure ^^ Reminded me of the good old days of 90s computing where you discovered you'd always need something more, like a codec, a driver etc, to get something running...
So that makes me next in line with Kjaye for being a guinea pig - Ian, if you need testers for quest, I'd be honored to be one of them!
