I didn’t like the fastest fist or kunlun fight(the boxing/kickboxing game from the same people and ended up refunding them)
Kunlun didn’t feel as fun or as polished as TotF.
fastest fist is ok I personally got bored with it rather quickly. I could see if you stick with it and it could be decent exercise. main problem though is it starts slow then speeds up, fine for when starting but once warmed up it is annoying to have to start over slow. (could have already changed or will in future)
Haven’t tried knockout league.
knockout league from what ive seen and read is punchout in vr, while it sounds fun nostalgia wise in practice it seems like it would be to restrictive for the amount of control you have in vr.
again haven’t tried so could be completely wrong.
also tried drunken bar fight, it was fun enough for 10-20 minutes but got boring.
another boxing style game I haven’t tried is fist of physics.
another one to try that is free but is not on steam (at least right now) is gorn, not great for exorcise but is fun
If you are looking for something that really feels more like a light sim, TotF is great. It really feels like you are in a boxing ring with an opponent. It makes a difference how you fight and how you try to exploit your opponent's weaknesses to overcome him and, in the beta, how hard you hit. The dev is working very hard and if very responsive to issues and suggestions. And, believe me, there is nothing out there that can make you sweat like this game! Wear a headband, get some kind of VR cover and wipe down between fights. If you are looking for something that is not an arcade game, this is the best that I have seen and recommend it highly. It really makes you want to get better so you can win consistantly. (In some cases, that means getting in better shape-que the Rocky theme.)
FWIW-I own KL and KF and have not played them at all since I started playing this game. For 10 bucks, this is really a no brainer.
Knockout League is fun but overall this has way more replay value. If you want a physical workout or a boxing like experience go with this. If you want casual arcade gameplay with cartoony opponents, not based on any real boxing technique go with Knockout League.
I'd say get this one, but I'm biased towards this as I always wanted a true fighting experience for VR. This is it, you can't move how you want to, only limited by your own ability to defend and attack properly. This is like high intensity shadow boxing, just that you have an actual target that fights you back.
haha its worth the money and then some. I should pass the 50 hours played by the middle of next week.
Dang, it's crazy to read the descriptions above and compare them in my head to where the game was at the time, though, and what was going on behind-the-scenes. If you all liked it before, then I hope you really like it now!
And thanks @unwaveringresolve for not only picking up TotF, but for being active here on the forums and leaving frequent feedback. You're certainly part of why the game has become what it is today. (Same for the rest of you. Thanks, everyone!)
I didn't like Knockout League. Like everyone else says, it's Punch-Out in VR. It's not a sim at all: you can dodge a punch clearly, and still take damage, just because you didn't dodge it the "right way."
The Thrill of the Fight is the only VR game I love. Most else I've tried in VR has been a novelty experience, or 'almost good'. I've yet to get bored of this game though. I'm a fat lazy guy, and I've played it like 40 hours or something so far. It can be very exhausting, but I keep playing because it's so damn fun.
I've never heard of The Fastest Fist until now.
It's arcade-y but at the same time seems more realistic.
But it's not released yet.
