Start with D1 or skip to this?
It seems like there is an over arching story, should I start with dungeon 1 or just play this?

If I recall rightly, Dungeons 1 was.... pretty horrible. It was a kind of dungeon-styled tower defense using treasures and creatures to "fatten up" invading heroes in order to kill them off for evil points. I bounced off the first level of the game once I found out it was NOT AT ALL in the vein of Dungeon Keeper.

Dungeons 2 finally settled on it being a dungeon keeper wannabe, and from what I hear isn't too different from this one. If you care about a story, it's probably best to start with 2. I don't remember anything about 2, as I never finished it, but that wasn't a problem for this game.

Yeah, hit up D2, it's hillariously funny, far more than the first, but any of the dungeons games can be played solo without problems

alright, so 2 is probably best, but will I miss anything from 1?

not really, basic gist is that the prime evil got tricked offa his throne, and hasta work his way up to reclaim it....and as said before, the mechanics are completely different...heros will continually come in, and you gotta wait till they get their fill of dungeoning before you kill them and drain away the stuff for evil points.....i got farther than warlord, but never finished cause i got bored

They kind of rebooted with D2 and made it more of a dungeon management sim, it doesn't have much in common with the first one. D3 is a direct sequel, most of the same units and gameplay with some new stuff added.

Story is humurous, but you won't miss anything by skipping to this game. This one is the best gameplaywise, so I'd say start with it. Then if you want more, go back and grab D2. Skip the first one completely (I didn't find it fun)

Thanks for the help, we all know how hard it is to find a good dungeon sim.

Honestly you could start with 3, the best-balanced of the bunch IMO, and then D2 knowing it's a wholly different methodology to troop & dungeon planning. (Played all of 3 on console, just to see if it wwas doable, and it was surprisingly delightful.)

Don't bother with D1. After wrapping up D3 and D2, I recommend taking your RTS itch to They Are Billions, and plan for Age of Empires remake later this year.

well I actually don't WANT rts. I want dungeon managment, after looking more into it this is probably not for me. I actually played dungeons 1 on a friends acc, and it was a lot better then 2 IMO for what I wanted to play.

..as an ex old school Dungeon K@@per(tm) player I find Dundeons 3 the best out of them all and improving all the time...a first person view cam would be nice to walk around ones dungeon creation though.

...maybe something to consider later on for the development team :)

I played trough all theire games in hardest difficulty and while i loved all of it (except the new dlc for 3) I can safelly say that dungeons 1 is SUPER GOOD, like I would prefere that to 2-3 10 times over.
But you have to come from a very special mindset to like that one. One of wich is not to want a total DK clone wich is 2 and 3ish.
That game had the feel of DK and it had some gameplay elements but it was actualy a mix of several different games and only several elemenets from all of them. I would call Dungeons 1 its own completly unique game due to the massive mix that works so good togather and is very veery thematic.

The expansions were quite good too and replay ability is there aswell due to the upgrade system and the many options how to achive youre goal. Multiplayer is really nice aswell and smooth with fun map challanges, altho multiplayer maps are really small, but probably not to hog down players for too long. Altho MP is open, it is completly dead. :P

The very first mission in dungeons 1 is absolutelly NO REPREÍSENTATÍION of the game. It is only a self sustainng map where you can familiarize with the controls, and trough try and error learn the mechanics as you cannot ♥♥♥♥ up that map and it wins itself its just a sandboxy way purelly designed to learn the game.

DO NOT JUDGE DUNGEONS 1 BY THE FIRST MAP IT IS A VERY SPECIFIC LEARNING MAP ONLY!!!!

Dungeons 1 has taught me that more of these games (dungeons 1 that is) must be made. I would call them Dungeon Tycoon games and I am now in the proccess of trying to make new ones of the genre so I'm learning unity in the hopse of accomplishing this.

i remember playing dungen keeper 3 or 2? i forget. either way this game is made by real amateurs. its very very crude. just play the old game and support this one if you like it. to be honest htis game isnt worth it,
