The Dark Elf
I feel so disappointed in how the story turned out.

Ok where to start

When I seen in the preview ages ago there was going to be a Dark elf, I got a little interested and thought this could be cool. Something I'd hoped to see in the game

Ya see, In the past ages ago,. I suggested in the Dungoens 2 forums some time about it, If we could turn Elfs into Dark elfs or something for our dungeons. It was just a suggested idea for the time. Cool feature to add. Couldnt raelly expect anything.

But after seeing the preview and now obtaining the game. I loaded up the first mission to give it a play. And heres were it kinda felt really disappointing how this story turned out.

The dark elfs just some foster daughter who just seems like an idiot who cant make up her mind in what she says. Theres a difference between being just stupid and making jokes. In this case she was just stupid. but moving on from this point. Whys she a foster daughter ? where are the other Dark elfs ? Then we get told the Evil lord has mad a spell that can possess.... which turned out a shadow that can possess..... only for 10 seconds... 10 seconds.... So when you finally posses her... Somehow she goes evil for 10 seconds... and then she becomes a devout follower.. Isnt there suppose to be something more here ? I dont really like how its not that well clarified. It lookedl ike she got addicted to do evil ? but how does that make her a devout follower. It needed something more here. Like brainwashing or a show of power to make her submit/admire to the evil lord.

Well being honest. I was really hoping something like an elf princess to be turned into a dark elf and made to serve the Evil Lord. Something similar along those lines. That seemed like it be really evil thing to do. When the Evil lord said in the video he at a good target in mind. It would of made sense for a "royality" target. Someone who could hold some leadership and organization beficiat for the dark armies :). Then we could also go about making more dark elfs under her banner?

Well if Dark elfs are suppose to be a pre-difined race already (meaning an already exsisting society), Will we find more of them ? Its just so lackstar how it turned out, her being a foster daughter and all. Wasnt all that interesting at all. she seemed way to dumb too :/ it stil would of been abetter setting, if the Evil lord "awakened" her from being sealed by that sleezy no good Paladin of carebears foster father of hers. If they were going around sealing dark elfs with their light magic, trying to turn them into carebears like the rest of them. Least that be something meaningful too.

Ah well, nothing I can do about but just feel annoyed it should of been better thought out :/

Thalya has a split personality disorder. Tanos's upbringing had suppressed her evil side, but the shock of doing evil deeds under possession caused it to reawaken and the good side to lose control. More of her backstory will be revealed later in the campaign as well as what happened to the other dark elves.

Well you arrive an island where the good fully banished all evil, and that is what they are trying with Thalya (dark elf) as well. They just try to surpress her evil core that is part of the dark elves.

And you as the ultimate evil only has been able to send a small portion of your power and just taint Thalya by possessing and break through the evil supression by corrupting here. Just like how Arthas was corrupted even when he was under the care of Uther. But guess you missed the reference completely. Or you never played Warcraft, which is used multiple times as reference in the first few missions.

But so far yes Thalya is the only left over Dark Elf on the continent Dungeons 3 plays out. Perhaps later on they add a Dark Elf faction just like they added some extra content in Dungeons 2 through DLC.

Yeah I wouldnt get the warcraft references, I barely played it long long time ago, Cant remember anything.

Well seems apparent as DEs are not simply Elfs gone evil or corrputed. It would mean they are intended to be a defined sub race race of Elves (like how you have High elfs, Wood elves, Averial etc etc ) Means they should have a society/faction out there somehwere, unless they are all wiped out/near extenction. Be nice to see them make an appearnce now.

Still wish they didnt make her seem like dumbass right from the start. But I guess I'll have to play through it and see how it plays out. Hopefully Thalya becomes somewhat of a DE hero and can draw out other DEs from their hiding ? Or maybe she can rape elves and make more DEs if their numbers are dwindling :p buahaha <--my attempt at an evil laugh

*edit* ah I see rape is censored... oh well, it must trigger snowflakes <.<

I am just continueing the campaign and I am up to the one where the heros are bathing in sunlight.

Is it me, or is the "good' personlity feel like shes "slowly" being influnced by the evil personalty to
convert to evil? I think this would is a good direction with what we've got. It be amusing if it turned into two evil personalies by the end of the campaign ? Is this what is happening ? That would be so nice and evil :D I mean I am get at the start they argue with each other beeing good and evil to be funny, But its getting old now, if they start conspiring together, I feel like it be nice. I get the feeling the last campaign or two the good one is starting to go along with it. :)

If it turns out the "good" one kills that Paladin of carebears, I'd be really pleased :)

Beware of spoilers.
Soon after that mission, the good personality basically disappears for a while. Then in mission 16 Tanos starts burning down the capital city in order to kill Thalya, and her good side starts getting serious doubts about him. By the end of the campaign she decides that evil isn't so evil after all compared to the supposed good of Tanos.

You do know that elves and dark elves are not the same right? You can't just "turn them into dark elves". Wood elves and dark elves are more subspecies to each other, just like the gray wolf and the domesticated dog are still wolves but different subspecies. To say that you can just "turn" something like that is as silly as saying that you can make a Dingo into a dog just by "turning it". Dark Elves have a pretty common lore about them, just look up Drow from D&D.
Noble Ten Oct 28, 2017 @ 2:39pm
Nah, it differs on lore. Some lore thats how it works. I know about the drow from D&D. I mentioned about races of the elfs in my opening post anyway. Its just I assumed because this game is about being evil, so it would of been more fitting and evil to be that way. It can wotk both ways without some good thought into it.

And yeah, about that spoiler.. beh, I feel like another oppitunity was missed for something interesting :/ That was all? :(

Well I think there is one thing you are missing, and that the game is supposed to be over the top silly, D2 was as well, in many ways. Going with a plot that would make the most sense, imo for this particular game would NOT make sense

Well Thalya is also kinda modelled as reference to Viconia Devir from Baldur's gate who also very conflicted, which you will find out if you get deep into her romantic story arc. Viconia mother basically did everything possible to purge her of any good which kinda made her emotionally damaged and fractured. But sure you're right it's probably also reference to Arthas and Uther Lightbringer, there a dozen reference throughout dungeons 3 :)

I played the Baldurs gate series. I killed her in the first game (well not really, she must of played dead). 2nd game I spared her from the mob and let her go on her way. So in that case, I never really partied with her. I had Armon (was that his name, I cant remember properly) as my cleric. But I do beleive she was the most popular character by the fans.

As for the game. Well I honestly dont like the "over the top sillyness". The game seems to me as its trying to hard to be funny and it has to do it all the time. Which kinda makes it lame when the jokes are forced. But in saying that its not like I dont like the game. I just wish there was more "seriousness" to the game and the narrator would stop trying to hard.

But yeah, plesae let the "goody" personalty slowly get influneced by the other, then we could have 2 evil sister personas in Thyla :) Working in conjuntion eventually ^_~
