Manipulating Alarm enemy pathing
So I was playing last night and testing some stuff with friends and it seems like you can manipulate the pathing enemies take while rushing you for an alarm. they don't seem to go the shortest route but the quickest route to you.

Leaving doors open and closing others making a straight path to you thru open doors seems to make them ignore closed off paths allowing you to concentrate more turret fire on a single path.

I'm curious if anyone else has tried manipulating the pathing and what their results were.

Well, i remember you could further manipulate spawns by standing in a room.
I dont know if they did anything about that but you could send someone in a room to force enemies to spawn from further away.

Manipulating paths is a common strat for scans. The enemies always follow the same set of rules, so you can ALMOST always get them to go where you want.

The downside is that they'll reach you quicker, and slowing the horde down is more important than killing them during most alarms
You found a basic mechanic in the game that is known since r1 first day of release.

I'd rather just foam a door and blow the ♥♥♥♥ outta the first wave with a mine than waste a single bullet as they rush through an open door.

The mechanic is also used to have enemies go to a single door which you c-foam and mine.

Lol this thread has devolved into a this is a bad strategy and you're wrong. When the original question was has anyone else noticed this behavior. I was mainly just curious if it is possible to manipulate their pathing.

Yeah everybody uses this, it's one of the core elements of strategy in this game

It is also possible to "door trick" enemies, where you leave one door open and they start taking the long way around, then you open the shorter path and they start back tracking to the new path.

Then when you're close, you close the door again, and they start running the longer way around. Good example is the first alarm in R6C1.
