inb4 the inevitable flame war over this topic. Steam has in-built controller support for most games, so the game having native controller support isn't as big an issue now. I don't believe that GTFO has any form of aim-assist, tho. I've playede with controller and it is doable, but it might be rough going overall.

There will always be elitists and sweaty try hards that will get all shouty over kb+m vs controller. Honestly, just play with whatever you feel most comfortable with.

I play with an Xbox 1 controller so yes, it has controller support. The only thing is that you have to figure out the button mapping

you have to figure it out in the sense that you have to adjust it yourself in a way that is comfortable

i dont mind using m+kb for typing / clicking things in a UI just struggle with moving and aiming

also, I would personally recommend you adjust joystick acceleration stuff with steam input rather than the ingame settings as the option to do it is quite limited

but overall it should be fine even if you don't

The only thing I can't work out on controller (it's my first night playing) is ping?

PS: And yes, there is Y-invert but it also inverts the mouse which is slightly crap.

do note the game is peer-to-peer, so any connection issues are related to host and client

I mean to ping an object; mark it for other players. What would otherwise be middle mouse button.

Steam allows you to build multi-layered and multi-function controller presets via their built-in controller support. It can be enabled and disabled on a per-game basis. To enable controller support go to Steam->Settings->Controller->General Controller Settings. Select the type of controller you use and calibrate it. Then, in-game bring up the steam overlay. If you run Big Picture mode you have a very clear option for controller config. If you use desktop mode the name of the game will usually be displayed at the top right of the screen. Under that is Controller Settings. There you can search for other user created profiles or build your own.
