Mains:
- HEL Revolver - penetrates and can hit multiple targets at a tight chokepoing.
- HEL Shotgun - does same thing, but at close range. Can single handedly wipe out waves if they get caught in a bad spot.
- PDW - basically a superior SMG. Don't let the aim reticle fool you - the hip accuracy on the thing is surprisingly decent. The thermals help at dark rooms and against the spoiler enemies.
- Carbine - it got buffed recently and i believe can kill small enemies with 2 perfect bursts to the body from close range. Basically a better trigger disciplined SMG. The only downside is range. Basically fancy PDW without thermals and extra 8 bullets.
Specials:
- Choke Mod - while High Cal Pistol is cool, choke mod does everything it does, but at twice the range and higher fire rate (if you ever need to mag-dump something). Suffers from 2 less rounds in tube, but they don't matter that much.
High Cal is fine too, but that 8m effective range hurts it sometimes.
- Precision Rifle - everything DMR was supposed to be, but better. Can head-oneshot small enemies from a very decent range, has very decent mag size, the thermals help with sniping even in pitch darkness and it actually has a full-auto trigger, allowing to mag dump if in a pinch. The only downside is that it reloads forever, but that's the case with most specials.
- Machine Gun - while many people hate the spin-up of it and the recoil, this gun is disgustingly ammo efficient. More so than any other special.
As long as you know how to burst-fire it, and can handle the recoil, of course.
To be honest, both revolvers haven't really grown to me yet, but maybe I should try them out more
The HEL Shotgun feels kinda weak due to being short range (i just can't get anything killed with it for some reason)
The PDW is absolutely awesome
And I just like the Carbine a lot for ammo control since ammo in this game is more worth than anything else (maybe just as important as tool refills)
and the Bullpup feels like a blend between SMG and Assault rifle making it pretty much always good. But the reload is painfully slow.
As for the machine gun, i feel like this thing needs to be used in hip fire since it shows the spinup there and the recoil makes its hard to hit anything medium range really which is a shame since it has the coolest holographic scope in the game
The only expedition I switched weapons was on E1 where I used the PDW and the High Cal Pistol.
I used to run Bullpup and Choke mod shotgun but I recently switched to SMG and either the Heavy Assault Rifle or both sniper variants. works surprisingly well for the most part.
Or malatack + Choke mod.
Although my favorite loadout this rundown is the HEL shotgun + Machine gun.
You absolutely mow down hordes with it and the HEL shotgun's pen + stagger makes it a great 'get off me' gun.
HEL Revolver + Machinegun: Incredibly ammo economy, DPS, and uptime. Variable range between Main and Special. Loadout is super general purpose, and the weapons synergize well while both being OP.
My favorite loadouts:
Carbine + Precision Rifle: Good power at range with the Special, good stand-alone damage from your Main.
PDW + Machinegun: Full-auto, thermal tool with a super quick reload in the Main, tons of damage out of the Special.
HEL Shotgun + Revolver: Special chews through waves with a huge ammo pool and a super quick reload. Main is easy to pull out if you're getting swarmed, while also being a fantastic support tool.
Most people don't like the feel of it and the fact you have to aim with it (HEL revolver). So they never get the potential out of those weapons which make them meta.
I guess thats a fair argument. But aren't 8 shots a little low for killing enemies even with its penetration?
Its a shame really, because the HEL shotgun is fun to use
