Plenty of fixes, optimization, smoother anims, better gunplay
Few new weapons
New maps in new visual styles and settings, way more map types than before
New enemy type they've been showcasing? new mechanics (gas)?
Think they introduced in-game VOIP at some point?
Matchmaking?
How is that scam? I'm not a fan of few of their decision, but it's far from a scam dude.
Oh and let's not forget that's a game made by less than 10 developers. So... yeah.
The game's been out for a bit over a year, not 3 years, and over the course of the year we've gotten somewhat a lot of new things.
~12 new objectives (reactor shutdown, cargo, clear a way, generators, uplinks, fog turbine, generator cluster, neonate, neonate resucitator, neonate opener?, nFrame, datasphere)
New weapon animations and weapons in general
I believe 4 new environments (dig site, storage, lab, datacenter) with 1 more coming out
5-6 new enemies (hybrid, spitter, birther, babies, tank, something i cant remember)
a bunch of enemy variants (granted most of these shouldn't really be considered new content since they're mostly just reskinned enemies sized up/down, for example shadow scouts are sized up strikers that are invisible, shadow giants are just giants with the shadow texture, however this isn't the best example since they function/functioned differently than normal giants)
there's also matchmaking
while I personally believe a game like this should have much more than it currently has based on the time it's been in development, it's definitely gotten better and has gotten more content.
Nice bait.
Only thing i am sad bout this game is that no VR.
I hope that you see this as an explanation that running a company and hiring people and making a game takes time and more involved that what it seems from the outside.
Up until 6 months ago, we have been a team of less than 10 people, of which only 2 being programmers. GTFO has grown expontentially larger than what we ever imagined and with it many challenges. You are right in pointing out that we've sold a lot of copies of the game, and with that we should be doing more. We're doing just that. We have been growing the company, however that does take time as we need to hire for every department, put out job ads, wait for people to apply, review their applications, do interviews, find that they might not be a good fit, start that process over again, finally hire them, but now we need to work with immigration to migrate them here, which takes time for them to leave their old job (and work their final time there), physically move themselves and all their belongings, then finally start. I made the journey from the USA to Sweden and it literally took 2 months from the time I signed the papers.
Once we have talent here, then we need to train them on the project, whether that be the source for programming (and they need to learn it, understand the vision, etc), or if that's creative and animations, or any other department.
It seriously takes a lot of time, just to find people, hire them, and get them up to speed, and in that time, our existing staff and programmers have some of their focus taken away from their primary responsibilities and coding to be able to focus on hiring people which benefits everyone in the long run.
Our Roadmap (https://gtfothegame.com/roadmap/) lists a high level of the features we've released with each rundown, and also lists the features we're committed to adding in the backlog. The road to 1.0 is within our sights which will either bring or improve things like:
- Improved Matchmaking
- More Objectives
- More Unique Enemies
- More Unique Environments
- Gear Progression
- Steam Achievements
- Menu Localization
- Improved Animations
- More Gear
- More Consumables
- More Hacking Minigames
- More Level interaction from terminal system
- Player character customization
Critique GTFO "the game is made by less than 10 devs!"
Critique Phasmophobia "the game is made by only 1 dev!"
Critique any other game "Where is YOUR game???"
*sigh*
GTFO has a lot of issues but 90% of people say "dead game" while offering no actual critique and then complaining that everyone white knights the game making it impossible to critique
I agree, saying "dead game" doesnt specify whats wrong with the game even if its true, Critique is something that usually helps.
My concern with GTFO and why i believe it won't be developed anymore in the near future is that it lacks main core features (story, interesting enemies, satisfying combat system=fun intense gunfights-deadly stealth interactions, player interactivity-immersions) even if they get more developers this game wouldn't have actual content before 2025 in my humble opinion.
I really hope this game somehow thrives, because it looks promising but how long will this be till people get tired of waiting and supporting?
Can you blame people not trusting EA games in this era? A lot of companies use the fragil EA rules to abuse the practice and create shovelware, games that never leave EA or just end up a dissapointment, while stick racking up far more money then it should have had in the first place...
