Burst sentry is also focused on damage, however this time it's more like a moderate damage. The burst also works on hallways and such. Because of this, a lot of the sentries aren't really that useful for putting outside of doors.
Since auto sentry is focused on stagger instead of damage, putting it behind a door is pretty much useless. Personally what I do is I put it a bit far from the door inside the room, and then when I'm done with the scans I would run up and kill the enemies while they're being staggered.
Really, that strategy works for all of them, as the only sentry that could really do damage behind doors was the shotgun sentry, and even then in late R3 unless you had the absolute perfect spot, it wasn't really needed.
