A Moment of Silence for the Loss of Unofficial VR Support
During the course of RunDown 3, I discovered an unofficial VR Mod for this game through Reddit. Having a Valve Index, and seeing the size of the GTFO community, I took a chance on it.
I am very glad I took the chance. I found little issue ever finding a game, and the Discord community was generally very supportive (I'll not easily forget one teammate who shot us all in the back and quit the game).

The VR support was fantastic, and the default mapping to the Index Controllers was very good. It was really something to be surrounded within the game when playing in VR. The two issues with VR play I had were: (i) typing on the terminal with a virtual keyboard is slow, and (ii) using the ironsights on the weapons never worked out very well (i.e., physically moving your hands into a firing position) due to the very fast pace of the attacks (fortunately, firing single handed with a laser pointer made it more than fair).

I would always let folks know I was playing in VR (because of the typing issue), and the community was always kind and supportive. They all seemed excited a feature was available, and thought it enhance the overall gameplay. It was a beautiful example of flatscreen and VR working side-by-side.

With the release of RunDown 4, the fun has now apparently stopped. The update has now patched out/disabled the VR capability, and the person who developed it indicated the effort to make it work again just got a lot harder, and it is very unlikely that a follow-on VR mod will occur.

The main reason I am bummed out is because this VR mod got me buying and playing a game I would have not considered otherwise, and for over 62 hours, I had a great time.
I hope the person who made the VR mod can find a way to work with the developers to get VR support back into the game. Of course, if the developers say 'No', it is their game, and I respect that.

I know I'm only one person (hopefully, there are other GTFO VR players), but I hope the day comes quickly to where VR support, official or otherwise, will be reinstated. I have no doubt playing on flatscreen is incredible, and playing in VR turned it into something more for myself.

Yeah i have that and the worthy dlc. The difference maker with this game though was the physical gun play, it's what makes VR beyond cool.

If it was just a game in VR, then VorpX works out for me.
collindrennen 2020 年 10 月 25 日 上午 8:52
Agree with the physical gunplay. I tried VorpX once, and did not have a good experience with it. It was something like VorpX was trying 'to take control' whether or not I went into Oculus or Steam VR.
As an example, I was already playing a VR version of Doom 3 BFG (quite good, even if not graphically advanced), which required a shortcut on my desktop. Then I installed VorpX, and then next time I tried the Doom 3 BFG VR game, it was like VorpX tried to take over form Steam.
I know it sounds weird, but that is what it looks like.
After that, I was afraid VorpX was going to break something in VR for me, so I stopped using it.

I was probably an idiot in how I used it, but I wanted to try VorpX on games like Dishonored, Bioshock, and Star Wars Battlefront.

It only tries to hook if it's active, as soon as you close it down you're free to use VR as normal. Neither Dishonored or bioshock worked well for me in VX, Battlefront/Star wars did though.

Id forgot about the D3 BFG VR mod, a worthy alternative to this in some ways. You can ramp the graphics up some with the texture packs.

Devs say they're not planning on putting VR support in
Individual third party mods it in.
Devs shut it down?

Well. I was thinking of getting GTFO as it looked fun and I liked the tense moody atmosphere and brutal unforgiving gameplay if you mess up but....yeah. That kind of behavior I find pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Even before I knew it had a VR mod I was interested in getting it and the VR was a huge recent surprise/bonus to me but if they're deliberately shutting down a mod that did nothing harmful and only brought in more people? Gonna pass up on it. Not the kind of dev team I wanna back with my wallet.

If they have another reason for disabling it or making preventative measures against modding VR into their game? I'd love to hear it. Game companies that lack communication with their customers and player-base are always shady to me.

It's really a shame this Rundown broke VR support. It was my only way to play the game, it really took things to another level and the atmospheric nature of the game lent itself so well to it. I hope the mod dev is able to work something out, but it doesn't look likely. It's a shame.

They never shut it down, the latest update just simply broke it, the mod's developer needs to update the mod, but AFAIK he is busy, or no longer wants to.

i just bought the game cause of the VR Mod aswell ( and 4 friends ) . its really sad that we have to beg for VR Support in 2020 and a hobby/amateur programmer has to impelement it over a mod. (unity and unreal engine have it already integrated inside the engine )

please bring back VR to this game , cause its so much better to play and such a incredible immersive experience.

just look at phasmaphobia , its desktop and VR crossplay developed by 1 guy and its a huge hit on steam for example ( right now number 1 on global top sellers ! )

+1 VR

Had a friend recommend me the game and he mentioned there was a VR mod for it, but now i might not even get a chance to try it out. what a bummer. I'll be crossing fingers and hope the developers decide to implement Vr into it. The game itself sure has the dark atmosphere for it to be a really spooky VR game.

Again it is all there, all the positives.
And I may not be at all familiar with this programming crap, but considering it was done by one person who is passionate about the game, the developers could simply implement this very easily by comparison.
And as we've seen, the engine that this game runs on is VR friendly.

Come on developers, no excuses, no more of this "We have no plan to implement it"
Not having a plan to implement VR into a FPS which in general is very VR friendly is ridiculous.

In the dark ages of VR, we only had two reselling-overpriced versions of Skyrim and Fallout 4 that people like me admittedly wasted our money on.
DLC content not integrated, aside from aiming there is absolutely no reason to have the VR motion controllers.

But these are only huge negatives because they charged for a separate version of their game that cost way more than the default version with much less.
By implementing VR to this unique and very atmospheric rich game as an added bonus... You guys are gonna be printing money, I guarantee it.
It doesn't matter how poorly implemented the controls are at first, just having it as a free option like in PayDay 2, The Forest, and No Man's Sky immediately makes it better than all the other VR games, because the players are not segregated from each other and it's not charged separately.

I'm one of those people that really want to drop myself inside such scary atmosphere, I want to jump into this game in VR, make it an option and word will quickly spread and BOOM! profit.

Please developers... MAKE IT PART OF THE PLAN NOW!!!
It's a win win for both sides, you can quote me on that.

+1 VR!

Okay so the thing is, the developers themselves are not regular VR users. They said this before, one of them has an original Vive and that's it. They are not going to work on GTFO as a PC and a VR crossplay title simultaneously, however I could see VR coming back, once the game leaves Early Access, and gets official modding support. Even then, the only thing we need is some passionate fan who creates the mod, and keeps it updated every 3 months when the new Rundown update completely breaks it.

But if you really don't like the idea of non-official VR support, well then I'm assuming you guys want the real stuff. Look, how do you force a developer who does not play VR, to work on a VR title? The mod itself was nice, but it was another "PC to VR port", like how PAYDAY 2 VR worked you can't interact with the world, your weapons are glued to your hand, no physics, real VR games are made from the ground up to be like that.

I tried the VR mod, and yeah this is the kind of game that would be awesome for VR. I'm 100% for official modding support, and then for some passionate guy making a VR mod for it, but I just can't see how the devs would add VR to the game. Because that would be an additional workload, to not completely break the VR part of the game with every update.

Have the developers work alongside the "passionate fan" who created the mod in the first place, the person who is all too familiar with it and HAS done it all by himself, now only with the help and support of the devs, simple.
collindrennen 2020 年 10 月 27 日 上午 3:06
It is wonderful to see how passionate people are about VR for this game.

Developer support of VR would be wonderful, but current feedback seems to indicate it is not really on their radar at this point in time. I hope they change their mind in the future, but I have no idea of what resources it would require, so I think the developer deserve some benefit of the doubt.

As an alternative, I wonder if the Developers would be open to allowing a limited Workshop option for the game, allowing for something like the VR option to be 'developer-supported', and that is something purely optional for anyone to try (if for no other reason, as far as I know, outside of some slowness in typing with a virtual keyboard, a VR player doesn't seem to have any deficiencies that makes a mission impossible to accomplish; that is all based on the ability of 4 people to work together).
Mindjive 2020 年 10 月 29 日 下午 7:53
Was about to buy three copies of this game for me and my VR playing brothers, not any longer, guess we will wait and see if the developers help the VR modder or not, or better yet, freelance hire him :)
