Depends on preference and how you play versus how many you play with. The more people the less amount of recourses per person. Overall both weapons you mentioned are great weapons in general though. I prefer the heavy assault and assault.

Honestly, while it might not seem noob friendly, I've had a lot of success with the DMR in my primary slot. And for my secondary I bring the default shotgun. But if you don't care for either of those weapons, my friends usually bring the SMG/LMG combo and it works well for them! The weapons are all in a pretty good state right now, so I'd recommend playing around with them and seeing what you like the most.

I'm going SMG and Combat Shotgun with a burst sentry at moment and seems to work for me

But yes I did start on Auto Pistol and that was good for noobs too

Hey! it depends on your preference to gameplay. If you're good with precision-based FPS you can go with pistol, HEL Revolver or the DMR in your main weapon slot, and sniper or choke-mod shotgun for your secondary.

If you prefer the spray and pray, SMG and Machine Pistol do a lot of stagger effects, less damage and do well if you need to panic fire from the hip. Go with either the machine gun or even the burst cannon or auto shotgun as a secondary.

If you want relatively balanced weapons that have average ammo clips but decent damage, look at the assault rifle/heavy assault rifle for primary. The regular pump shotgun in the secondary is very decent too.

Play around with all the guns, as they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Good luck!

I started (and mostly stuck) with SMG and combat shotty for a lot of my playtime. It's beginner friendly but also very effective and versatile. SMG is reasonably accurate and rips apart/staggers smaller enemies at close-range while combat shotty does the same + crowd controls + rapidly downs big guys if needed. The revolver is also very good if you can land your headshots consistently (OHKOs small guys).

I've since changed my main loadout but the above loadout is still amazing.

Heavy AR when ADS is somewhat annoying to manage. It may have bigger killing potential than default AR but accuracy during actual gameplay may waste a chunk of potential damage because of misses. I'd say every easy spray weapons such as SMG are generally more versatile choice for both experienced and new players, especially considering rather "peculiar" game netcode which makes weapons actually reliant on ammo effective headshot shooting weak in practice.

I'm not a pro by any means but I've found myself liking the pistol and revolver a lot. Pistol is great for head shots and can rapid fire when needed, where the revolver is like your fall back, as long as you hit you'll do well. I gave up on shotguns personally as they felt too weak, even at short distance I found enemies would survive a blast. Heavy assault is good but low magazine can create issues. Sniper is good but not great in every situation.

Work on your hammer time.
But if you need an all rounder primary the standard assault rifle will do everything and is super easy to use. SMG if you are comfortable fighting up close with its low range.
Wouldn't suggest the shotgun/DMR in their current form.
Heavy rifle is much better than the DMR. DMR feels like a handicap when you take it.
Auto/choke mod are straight upgrades to the pump shotgun. Which is so slow with such short effective range you may as well hammer the enemy.

Pistol if you can aim (the most ammo efficient). revolver is a good choice for 2 shot kills. DMR seems like a worse but longer range HEL revolver. Heavy assault rifle is fantastic and my personal favourite. For secondary normal or choke shotgun for large enemy kill. Sniper only if you can aim and have decent allies to protect you. Secondary revolver 1 shots normal enemies and the scout in the back of the head, but not great against anything large. Also the sniper turret is okay but worse utility than the other 2. Other tools are all great.
