On the Discord one of the developers mentioned that in the future, players will be able to find valuable things they can bring up with themselves after they win a match, for those they get credit from The Warden, which they can use go craft/customize guns and such. So in the future, there is going to be an option for that, but not right now.

Just want to pipe in that games have existed for decades without “progression” systems and the reason to play a game was because you enjoyed playing the game and completing major sections of the game was satisfying.
If you need an extremely arbitrary sense of “progression” in the form of new guns and character skins in order to have a “reason” to play then your enjoyment of video games is unfathomably shallow.
GTFO is getting one but this notion that without a progression system there’s no reason to be playing it is just mind boggling to me.
It´s not mind boggling is just once you know how to easily beat a level, theres not any reason to repeat it more than 2-3 times...maybe 5 if you liked it a lot, but thats all.
Giving people some cosmetics, voicelines, weapon skins, etc.... also give great reason to veterans to keep helping new people in game.
Why?
Do games need unlocks? No. Does a game including them mean that they're shallow without them? No. I have a job and as much as I loved playing older games that were just round based repetition in my youth, I much prefer the sense of achieving something now outside of personal goals, just how achievements (steam achievements/xbox gamerscore/PSN trophies) are loved by many, and many don't care about them. Especially when a game will have unlocks at some point but doesn't while it's EA, I'd rather wait than burn myself out.
I never said you can’t like it enjoy them, I said that if just playing and enjoying the video game means nothing to you and the only deciding factor for you on a game is if it has some arbitrary reward system that’s unimaginably secondary to the actual core gameplay, then it’s little wonder AAA gaming devolved in to greed and shallow money-making experiences as much as it did.
The notion of “the only reason to keep playing a game is a progression system” makes no sense, regardless of who you are if you think about it for even half a second.
I think people replaying the same game over and over doing the same thing to gain nothing is autistic as well, but we're all different aren't we?
This is a pointless discussion, just because you find it "mindboggling" that people enjoy things different to you, doesn't mean it's worth talking about. You're right though, the current state of AAA gaming is a direct reaction to consumer trends and wants, so you've already acknowledged yourself that people clearly enjoy the things you find mindboggling. Is it so hard to believe that I'm on the fence about picking this game up because it's in early access, which I typically avoid like the plague, because it doesn't have a matchmaking system, and I'm trying to dissect what features the game has out of things I like before making a purchase?
I still recall loving L4D2 when I learned how to bash a hunter mid pounce (Towards me)
I put many hours into L4D as well when I was younger and loved it, but I struggle to play it now and L4D after I've done everything in it and seen everything, it's all very samey. Just like you enjoyed bashing a hunter mid pounce, some people will have enjoyed trying to bash a hunter mid-pounce because there's an achievement tied to it, so a clear written out goal as well.
For a co-op game like GTFO, especially when it's designed to be a challenge for the worthy hardcore games, the game will not become less if unlockables/character customization/gear progression are added to it. It just gives it another layer of "huh, this game has content in it!"
You know, playing a map over and over just to see better stats at the end screen, less downs is not very rewarding... Of course, unless we goSUPER MEGA HARDCORE MODE , the majority of the people will want to upgrade their arsenals, their character, stuff like that. In CS:GO, your character doesn't get better, YOU get better by practicing your aim, learning about statistics and so on to get better at the game. But GTFO is a Co-op game, let us have the progression.
