Mines
How do I use them properly? Everytime I set them, it feels like they do nothing. I expected some sort of explosion and/or splash damage but never noticed them doing anything. Maybe I'm using them wrong?

They work better in conjuction with C Foam grenades. A good guide for handling alarm doors: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1933101104

Hmm... so they aren't that useful if there is no reinforced door? How does the damage work. Does the first enemy that sets it off gets damage, how much splash dmg is there and how many enemies can one good placed mine kill.

I'm afraid I can't give you exact numbers but a well placed mine on a door can take down a few at once, it depends on how the enemies are grouped as they break it (I've had sessions where a single mine took care of at least 4 enemies).

Just a Question, do you lay the mines on the Ground, at the walls or at the top ?

- our squad even combined the ground and at the wall so the lasers were like a "cross"

That depends on your strategy, but we would usually put them on the side of the door (knee high) so that enemies hit them as a group shortly after breaking the door.

Yeah crowding monsters at a door and having a trip mine on the other side is a fantastic strategy that makes trip mines very effective. You can also put a mine high up on a wall so that only a big boi will trigger it and blow its head off.
This is an old thread, but I figure it best to ask here...

I finally decided to try the game and its atmosphere is FANTASTIC! I am encountering a problem I think that is being caused by the trip mines.

So I'm challenging myself to try to complete the A1 mission solo (it's POSSIBLE, just REALLY challenging). I've encountered this issue on both alarm scan doors. I place a mine or two outside one normal door, and reinforced it with C-Foam.

NOW! Most reinforced doors can last maybe...10..20 seconds? Given the mines outside will kill some mobs (a good tactic). But what I don't know is the 'explosive radius' of the mines themselves. Because I've had issues where if a mine goes off near a door, the door just INSTANTLY breaks, despite being C-foamed! I even aim the mines 'away' from the door as to not risk breaching it, I even hang a mine on the light above the front of a door (which is about a couple of feet away from the door), but I've had an issue where any mine close to a door, even if it's not 'close' to it, makes it explode, ruining the whole point of defending a point and holding it.

Is the explosive radius REALLY 'that big'? How far should I place a mine away from a door I C-Foam?

You want the mine on your side of the door, so they set it off after they break the door; that way they are all clumped up from beating on the door.
I know though that a door can last longer IF you mine the outside area. This is a strategy I've done on the second alarm door of A1. A good chunk of the first horde wave is taken out, giving me time to finish the 2 mini scan waves. I just didn't survive the wave after the scanning was done, but it is possible.

I know I can't mine too close to the inside of the door as I think bent metal blocks the laser line of sight on the mine.

Place the mine on the inside of the door, but not too close to certain doors because of the door deformation. Otherwise wall mines at head-level usually seem to kill 1-2 enemies. 2 enemies might be the standard for all well-placed mines.

I'm not sure about all wall-placed mines (diagonal, mid-range "cone" facing enemy), how many they kill since I'm never there to watch them after they're placed. I'm also not sure how many a mine placed before 1-2 blobs of c-foam would kill.

They're probably a little better against special enemy types. One type of enemy has more health and tends to attack in a huge cluster, I'm not sure whether just one mine kills them however.

Mines need to be placed some distance apart, as well as not directly facing another mine. Otherwise they will trigger each other and explode uselessly. Rag dolls (dead enemies) can trigger mines as well, so perpendicular or spaced out mines can avoid that.
Oh ya I know that mines can accidentally trigger other mines, even mobs that are 'dead', as their bodies will be flung forward and will trip another mine by accident.

My problem is how 'close' I can place a mine on the outside. Doors you can C-Foam have those 'ridges' just ahead of the door, and usually have those light fixtures just above a couple of feet away from them. I don't know if the radius of the mine is so large that if I put mines in those locations, it'll destroy the C-Foamed door.

Again, he's telling you to put them on the inside, your side; not the outside.

A mine on the outside is going to kill 2-3 enemies at most, a mine on the inside is going to kill like 10-20 because they will all be in a big group after beating on the door.

And if you're going to put it on the outside of the door, you might as well put it as far from the door as you like because it's going to kill the same amount of enemies either way; whoever happens to run by it first.

That's going to be a test I want to do then, mostly for the 2nd security door.

I'll put down a 'few' mines out the outside to buy me some time to do the mini scans. Then put 1 by the door (for the massive mob), then a couple more on either side to cover the flanks.

Can you guys check again if mines destroy doors. I was testing that earlier and they didn't seem to deal any damage to the door.
Dave: Like I said, I've had instances where I'd C-Foam a door, and within seconds, the door 'explodes', while still in the C-Foam state, instead of slowly breaking down, THEN the door would eventually collapse. That's why I'm trying to figure out how 'close' you can put them.
