A similiar scenario could be an area where the team must destroy some control panels or generators (or whatever) hidden behind solid walls, with no indication of where. In order to destroy them, they can find a pair of heat signature goggles randomly spawned somewhere in the level, which 1 player equips and is able to see the targets behind the walls, and then mark the areas using the IR laser so the team can focus fire them.
Having players use lasers to mark team objectives would make for great team play I imagine.
But if i could ask for a good coop element id like to get parts where you have to split up in 2 teams 2 players each and each group has to solve a puzzle to proceed in the level while always 1 guy has to do the puzzle while the other one has to defend both of them. Maybe with interferance so both groups cant talk to each other while split up :D
This seems very unlikely since it is possible to die... Y'know... Like we're shown in the trailer, a single guy is the only one left alive, and he's progressing without the rest... That's kind of a problem if a puzzle REQUIRES more than 1 player to do. It would mean losing 1 or 2 teammembers would just mean an instant restart. That would be VERY disappointing.
And I doubt they'll include a "rescue" system like the one in L4D, I'd be sad if they did, it would feel too arcadey if they did.
A lot of gameplay can be controlled purely from level design alone. Each level can be built with a main path from start to finish, that is specifically designed to be viable for a single player to achieve. That would be the core layout of the level.
Then they can start adding in optional shortcuts and alternative paths that might shorten the distance to the goal, or lead to lucrative areas like an armory or whatever. Gaining access to these optional paths and areas could require specific teamwork mechanics and gadgets that the lone survivor would have to skip in favor of sticking to the beaten path, as it were.
