MacOS MacBook Pro M1 Excessive CPU Usage
Hi,

I'm relatively new to this, however hoping someone can help me.

I recently purchased the new MacBook Pro M1 silicone chip, and have been playing planet coaster. It runs very well, however my Mac gets extremely hot and the fan sounds like a hair dryer at times. This is unusual as the new M1 Macs are advertised as being almost silent, and very cool.

I had a look in my activity monitor, and my CPU shows as running between 250-350%, and my GPU at 95-99%. I contacted Apple support to check if this was normal - but they advised me this is extremely high and should not be happening as this will damage my Mac very quickly.

Can anyone advise if they are experiencing the same kind of CPU usage, and if there is any fix around this or what I can do?

Thanks.

Does that mac have an option to disable autotune/overclock? This sounds like what is happening and yes it will heat up any system to get such boost to the cpu and graphics. Especially on a game that will continue to draw power as long as it keeps finding more power to draw from. Like planet coaster and even blender.

Whats overlock?

In simple terms overclock is adjusting the power supplied to the cpu and ram to gain added performance. Look for a program on your mac that adjusts the performance of the mac.

i have mac book pro and am experiencing similar issues in that within a minute of running the game the fan gets loud and mac gets super hot. i spoke to apple support who said despite the cpu being 350% with gpu of 73 they said it would be fine to run and wouldnt damage the mac. i am worried to play the game as ive already got graphics down to minimum and this mac cost me over 2 grand so i dont want to damage it .
