DirectX Situation
Hi, I have been able to access Planet Coaster fine until an update with Windows yesterday. Now it requires I have DirectX 11 as part of the '3D game adapter'. I've tried my best to resolve the issue and get DirectX 11 back but found nothing, any advice?

Move to Tech Support.

What type of graphics card do you have?
Have you installed the latest updates for your graphics card driver?

It's NVIDA, and yeah everything is up-to-date. The problem is the DirectX part has also been updated and Planet Coaster doesn't like that.

Planet Coaster only uses DX11 not DX12
Doesnt Matter, Windows 10 installs an up to date DX Library of DX12 but this also includes DX11+ 11.1 + 11.3

I know this as I have windows 10 Pro and play the game and every other game fine theres only a handful actually using DX12 and even then its an OPT IN not default.

@OP & volle, I suggest verifying the integrity of the game cache of Planet Coaster via steam and trying again after this is completed. You can also roll back the update via windows if this doesnt work.

There are no stand alone versions of DX as far as I'm aware,, not that you can download any way....best bet for this is to install an older game that has a DX11 component to install and try that as a last resort.

Thank you all for your comments. @Jacknm2 how do I verify the 'integrity'?

The new Windows 10 update screwed up everything.. Many games are no longer working after the update, I would try rolling back or just waiting till the developers update the game to compatible with the latest update

In your steam library go to the game and right click it, select properties, then click the local files tab and below it you will see the verify the integrity of the game cache.

Try the roll back, it has worked for others and as suggested above you can postpone the update until Microsoft or Game Dev's roll out a Fix.

Best of luck.

Hi @Jacknm2, does rollback mean iuninstall any recent updates or something else? As you can tell, I'm not a technical know-it-all haha

You are quite correct, uninstall the most recent update that has or you think has caused the current issues with your game.

If you are on Windows 10 Go to Settings > Update & Security > Update History and it should give you an option to "Uninstall updates" and you should be able to tell via the dates of installation compared to when the issue arose.

If you are not on Windows 10 then you can try this method by Howtogeek >

I've attempted to uninstall all relevant updates from the history, but the DirectX is still at v.12; any more advice @Jacknm2?

DX will always be at 12, Windows 10 uses DX12 and you wont be able to downgrade it unless you downgrade to windows 8.1 or 7 and use a stand alone installer for DX11.1 from another game that has it in its install directory. Similarly if you havent removed any DX files then it will stay at tthe level of install provided.

However your original post said that you were able to play fine until the recent windows update. So in theory uninstalling that recent update should allow you to play again.

Try this, go to your steam library and right click the game > properties > local files > Browse local files - Then look for the folder CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010 (thats what says in my folder) scroll down till you see an application called DXSETUP - Run this application and follow it through until it either completes all tells you you already have an up to date DirectX.

You can also run DxDiag to found out which version of DirectX and Dxdiag you are running and compare it to what Microsoft say is the latest.
