It´s not getting dark in my cave.
Hi Guys.

Since darkride parts (Even walkthroughs) don't really work in normal buildings I tried what basically everybody is doing: Putting it in a cave.

In this case it's the queue of a flatride that is supposed to go through some crypts underground. However: It's not getting dark in the underground. Not even in the back end.

Any clue what might cause the issue? Did I set a wrong setting or something?

Try clicking on the "L" key. It turns the camera light on or off.

If there are any gaps at all the light will get in.

This does mean for complete darkness your ride has to travel through a closed off terrain made cave entrance.

You can mask that with some kind of effect or trigger though so it is not very well seen even when on the ride.

Yeah? Eg - Make it look like a portal or be imaginative in the way you hide the fact that it's a solid terrain wall.

Thanks for the tip. It's not the problem, but I'm sure it will help a lot in the future.

Are you sure about this. I've seen plenty of cool project that just start off as a cave. As a matter of fact: You can't seem to get underground if the cave is completely closed (camera won't pass through ground unless there is a hole somewhere). Like for example this screenshot where I removed all lights from the cave. (the path you see goes on for quite some time, you just can't see it because of the darkness)

BTW: This is the same cave without theming.. So there definitely isn't anything hiding the wall.

There is actually a way of getting underground without a hole if you use the no clip camera option in settings.

How much needs to be on it. Since it slopes down (stairs) it's not very think (1m) at the front. But since it goes into a hill, there should be a quite good layer on it. At least 3m when it reaches the bottom. And definitely over 5m near the back.

I can’t remember offhand but it needs to be more than 1m.

It does work, you do have to go into the options and make sure terrain and ride collisions are switched off. So if you were building a coaster you would be able to swallow it up in terrain and the coaster will still pass through it. The same on track rides.

You do have to be very clever with the terrain placement. I mentioned using effects and doors to hide the fact that the car will travel through terrain but another method is to make sure the car is facing the opposite way then spin it around as it passed through the terrain. Perhaps in combination with effects and triggers.

Sadly the only way to get absolute darkness is to be entirely enclosed by terrain.

Thanks for the tips, guys.
You do not need to build underground. Go to the Workshop and search for "blackout wall". You can build around anything when you don't want ANY light to enter. You'll understand once you get the wall pieces and play with them for a minute or two. This will solve your problem.

I looked and saw that blackout wall, and it looks pretty good for making a very dark environment.

Unfortunately, as per the Artist who built it, it still can't block the sunlight coming in. :-(
I use it a lot and it does work.
