Are DLC's necessary for the complete experience?
Would i be missing out on some good gameplay features if i skipped the DLC and just got the base game?

Can't feel you skipped anything if you have them all. :steamhappy:

The most general issue is the Steam Workshop. Given that this is a primarily a creation game, access to a library of player-community creations that can resolve issues (like fulfilling a coaster challenge when you're not good at coaster building), teach, inspire, or just save time, is a fundimental part of the developer's intent. Prior to the Thememaker's Toolkit (late 2018) many Workshop creations were likely to include bits even from the most obscure DLCs (Back to the Future, Knight Rider, Munsters). So in practical terms, getting the most out of the Workshop (arguably the most important gameplay feature) requires all the DLCs. However, this changes depending on what you're playing on -- Workshop creations for the Windows and Mac versions of the game are not cross-compatible with those from the console versions.

The DLC's do not affect the game play in any way but with Planet Zoo all important engine and game changes are always free. you literally pay just for extra content. Which is good. In Planet Coaster you will be missing a lot of much used scenery if you don't have the DLC's but it won't ruin the core of the game.

I suggest you just play the base game for a while. You can always put off purchasing DLCs until later. That's what I did. I have all of them now, but I think it was like 6 months before I finally broke down and started buying DLCs.

On sale, of course. Always on sale!

Workshop items that include DLCs you haven't acquired can be an annoyance, but it's not a deal breaker in my opinion.

personally i think the game is great on its own without dlcs, the dlcs mostly just add extra rides and roller coasters so i guess it depends how much you want more rides. plus the more stuff you have the slower the game gets, so you just have to weigh up your options with how you want to play.

More rides, coasters, and scenery items.

Like the "World's Fair" one gives you Oriental-looking building pieces (you know, like where the corner of the roof curves up?) and statues of dragons, among other things.

But you're 100% correct, the game plays fine without them. But the DLCs are nice, if you're not too hard up for cash (like a lot of people on these forums seem to be, considering how many complaints we see about how expensive it all is. I often wonder if these same people aren't out there every day buying a Triple Chocolate Caramel Cloud Macchiato Hold the Cream for $6 or $7?)

I would recommend getting the full suite of content so that you can enjoy all the workshop parks. Just my opinion though.

Really it's all up to how you want to play the game. If you just want to do your own thing then DLCs aren't needed. If you want to get into the real gritty bits of the game and post on the workshop, I would recommend getting at least the Studio and World's Fair. Those 2 DLCs offer the most value and pieces for making blueprints. And if you want to enjoy the game to the fullest, get all the DLCs.

Nah, they aren't needed. If you want to get my favorites, (ON SALE ONLY), get the magnificent rides, studio, and adventure packs. Magnificent rides has more rides than anybody needs, studio allows you to create universal/hollywood studios park, and adventure has a swinging mine train ride that is super great for less intense rides.

You can also wait roughly 1-2 more years and see what PlanCo 2 has in it,

They will be. It just may take longer due to delays because of covid.
Last Rumors stated that Frontier would be making an announcement for the new release in late 2022 early 2023. Take that for whatever it is worth.

Just my opinion but they really need to have another release even if they only plan to have one DLC(unlikely). That one being they highly requested Water Park.

There's so many flat rides, various roller coaster types that can be added. Just an overall upgrade for paths, water, general fixes that they were unable to do with this version of the engine.

There's also the rumor of Disney being involved as well. Though some people on YT have stated this is no longer the case. Regardless it would mean a lot of money for Frontier, there's no reason to not do a second one at this point.
