DLC worth it?
I've been looking at this for years now and whenever it's on sale I click on it. But whenever I see the 10-ish dollar base game vs 50-ish dollar bundle I always hold back and think I'll buy it another time. I won't complain about the price, because that's besides the point, but rather: Is any of the DLC worth it? Does it actually bring anything of value to the game considering that you can get a bunch of stuff from the Workshop?

A lot of the Workshop content relies on the DLC, including Munsters, KnightRider, & Back to the Future. Obligatory boilerplate response: IMHO it depends on your interests and what you want in your park. Gotta have a Grand Carousel or there's no point in having a park? The Magnificent Rides DLC. More interested in waterfalls in your parks? Adventure DLC. I'd say the game requires all the DLC (even Munsters, KnightRider, & Back to the Future) for the best (and least frustrating) experience, but I tend to be a completionist -- definitely get 'em on a good sale! If you're fine with the vanilla rides then you don't need DLC that add more rides (Classic Rides DLC), same with shops (World's Fair DLC). But what's fun for you is up to you -- if you want to do everything yourself, make your own 3D content and upload it via the Thememaker's Toolkit (when the server for it's working, and it's an FPS killer), then maybe you don't need DLC content that lets you get the most out of other players' Workshop scenery (that can use the most obscure DLC bits). However, this changes depending on what you're playing on -- Workshop creations for the Windows and Mac versions of the game are not cross-compatible with those from the console versions.

Yea, that was what I was afraid of. I guess I'll just keep doing the same thing as before and just look at it and think "maybe next time" until they actually drop the price to something reasonable.
I was hoping a bit that a lot of the workshop items were 100% custom made and not by sticking items together, similar to Cities Skylines

To be clear, Workshop Items via the Thememaker's Toolkit (links below) are 100% custom made -- but there's no way to know which they are other than reading each item's description and making sure the Required DLC list is blank. Also, there are known issues with the TTK items, mostly that the devs didn't include any way to use the game's texture atlases, so subscribing to them increases the game's texture fetches and they tend to be FPS killers.

I bought the DLCs a few at a time when they went on sale. I thought, "I would like some of what this one has, and that one too." Eventually I bought them all.
I like to build so in the end it was like getting every last leggo brick possible. I am still building and have no regrets about my purchases.
If you feel limited by the items in the base game, then look into buying DLCs. If you like building parks, go for a package deal, you will use them.
When waiting for sales, 25% off is common, let it slide. 35% to 40% is good. At 50% I would buy it. If you are not in any hurry then the better sales will come, you just need patience.

depends on what you are looking for? the game is 100% worth it without any DLCs but if you want to have more options and creativity then i would defo get some!!

I mean, there won't be much better sales unless they actually drop the prices. The game's been done for three years, that's when you turn it into a complete edition for a fair price. I've bought so many complete editions of games for around 10 bucks, even 25 dollars for everything would be fair. I'd agree with what Gray says, the base game is fair and well priced. But in the end, the DLC etc. plays on FOMO and I think pricing it that high is predatory and greedy. I want to build so I know I'll want to get more stuff for the game.
I complained about the price anyway.

Looked at the price again just because. The base game is roghly 1100 JPY with a 75% sale. DLC bundle is roughly 5000 JPY with a 65% sale and an original 10% for buying the bundle. So they actively removed what you save for buying everything as a bundle. I want the game, but I don't want to feel like I'm being screwed over for buying it.

now would be time to get all those dlcs with the discount :)
Dantes_Grill Apr 6, 2024 @ 4:12am
I think the discount is bad, which is why I asked about the value of the DLC. Jurassic World 2 from 2021 with all the DLC costs roughly the same as PC, a game from 2016. If the game was still in development it would've been a different thing, but it's not. Even if I want to play the game, I won't bend over backwards because companies keep thinking that DLC automatically makes the game permanently worth the same as a full brand new release :avgn:

bro i just thought i make you aware of the sale going on at the moment, no need to write me a full essay on why you are against company greed or whatever. nobody is forcing you to buy it if you dont want to. nobody forcing you to "bend over" xD have a nice sunday

I made the thread because the game's on sale and I wondered how much the DLC affects the base game, not if I should buy the DLC or not. The comment is to clarify for others who misinterpret what I'm asking.

Is PlanCo DLC worth it?
Well if you want as much theming as possible then yeah sure go for it.
Is PlanZoo DLC worth it?
It's literally sometimes reskinned animals so no.

You don't need to own the DLC to use it in-game, only save the park that uses DLC you don't own. So you can try out the dlc before you buy it. There is also an in-game filter to remove dlc items from search results.

Oh, so it's like I can use and edit or is it just placed and stuck there?
