After playing this game since beta, i would say just buy a decent pc/laptop and forgo the gimmick.
but the team deck is made by Valve(steam) and even the base model has 64gb of storage and it's not really a gimmick

It claims to run aaa games. You might could build a very small park or a couple of coasters, but dont think it will run a full map park. The HD has a 256 sixe option.

not a chance the steam deck is gonna run this lol, a supercomputer cant even run this its bottlenecked by the processor
AwesomeAgent404 Jan 25, 2022 @ 10:19am
but these are the recommended specs RECOMMENDED:

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 7 (SP1+)/8.1/10 64bit
Processor: Intel i7-4770/AMD FX-8350
Memory: 12 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GTX 980 (4GB)/AMD R9 380 (4GB)

these are the deck specs

steam os 3.0
CPU: Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32)
GPU: 8 RDNA 2 CUs, 1.0-1.6GHz (up to 1.6 TFlops FP32)
16 GB LPDDR5 on-board RAM (5500 MT/s quad 32-bit channels)

it looks more powerful to me just not sure about GPU power or controller support but the controller support isn't that important due to you being able to use an external keyboard

But this one is *very* CPU intrusive

I own gpd win 3 with 1135g7 processor and intel iris gpu, and it can run planet coaster with 15w tdp just fine. As far as I know steamdeck will have better gpu than win3, so I bet it will run it easily

I would not purchase a Steam Deck if I was already in possession of a PC with adequate specs (and as it so happens, I am).

If I didn't have a PC with adequate specs, I'd buy one with adequate specs before bothering with the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck plays games. The PC will play games and a bunch of other nice stuff.

(try doing your taxes on the Steam Deck)

it runs stem os 3 which is a version of Linux and in turn, it can do pretty much anything a PC can (including paying your taxes lol) plus the steam deck is really portable.

Do your taxes? On a seven inch screen? You have got to be kidding me!!

I'm sure it's wonderfully portable, and maybe even comes with a magnifying glass so you can read the text.

I think I'll stick with my laptop, thanks just the same. :steamhappy:

you can(but will get rid of the portability)hook it up to an external monitor

I thought that was probably true, however, that not only destroys the portability, it also adds to the expense and inconvenience. Whereas I can purchase a small-ish laptop (less than 15 inch screen) and it's already as portable as necessary, and it can already do my taxes without a magnifying glass or any additional purchases.

Which isn't really saying much either, coz I priced the Steam Deck at between 400 and 650 USD, and I paid about 900 USD for my 15 inch laptop (which happens to run PlanCo very nicely). Still, I only have to lug around the laptop by its lonesome, not a separate console, monitor, cables, and probably an external keyboard.

So that's just pretty much the way it goes. You can't please everybody.

can't play my desktop pc while taking a dump...

In response to the OP's question, one thing people keep glossing over is that out of the box the SteamDeck is a Linux machine. Planet Coaster doesn't have a Linux port. To even get the game running, you'll need to either switch the device over to Windows (expensive but easy) or install WINE (free but a bit tricky for those not familiar with the Linux command line). Or possibly switch to ReactOS x64 which is free AND easy, but do that at your own risk, it's still an early alpha.

You can on a good laptop. Problem is a good laptop in this context will run you a few grand.

Alternatively you can set up some sort of portable "dumb terminal" if you really want to get fancy.

Mine was $609 after tax. Runs fine on that laptop. Same with planet Zoo. You don't need 1k. Much less 2. In fact the mid range for laptops has always been 1200-1500.
