Completely darkness in caves (also during the day)
It would be fun in the coming updates caves will be pitch dark, also by day included which is not the case now. As a result, you can not enjoy the light effects properly, and that's exactly what it's all about. It would be great for the Vogelrok (Efteling) and the Black Mamba of course, and the Rock & Roller coaster at Disney.

I hope you work on this update, it would inprove the game a lot.

Greetings,
Marit

My caves are pitch black. Perhaps your monitor setting is causing a light screen?

Caves are usually pitch black. If they´re bright, then it´s because there are holes where daylight comes in.

So either check if there are holes or your monitor settings / ingame graphics settings are too bright.

Maybe you didn't make your caves deep enough under terrain. Also, I have found that some parts of a map receive sun differently, shadows can make more darkness in some areas. In general, if your ride is under enough ground, it will be pitch black during the day.

I believe the problem is that you can not get complete darkness inside buildings. Generally I've noticed the caves underground are plenty dark, but the light shines through walls like they aren't there.

Press L to turn off cursor light?

I agree with everybody else. One of the big things people never liked was that walls and pieces only cast a shadow, they won't make total darkness..... but the terrain will. Your caves should be fine - You have holes somewhere.

One option..
In settings turn gamma down.
Another option
In windows adjust your desktop color and gamma.
Yet another option
Check your brightness, color, contrast and gamma on your monitor.

I have this same issue an have posted my own discussion about it before finding this one. I'm on a Mac so maybe thats part of it. I have these bright caves. No matter how I tweek the settings, I can't find anything that looks remotely similar to what I see other people seeing when I watch them play in their videos. I've tried different elevations, closing the holes completely, so there is no entry, tweeking in game gamma; but nothing matches to what I'm seeing others just playing with. I've seen people just place paths a little bit and already get some sort of darkness going. I'll get a small part of darkness after tunneling for ages and still the whole system looks like it would just below the entrance. This is even when I close the thing off so theres no light entering at all. I have the camera light off, and I've turned camera clipping off to check for other holes. Nothing, it's all just a bright mess. I'm not so sure tweeking my laptop settings will help, as they just make everything darker. The problem is whats happening. The darkening thats supposed to happen is just not happening, like the game is not including the effect at all. I tried setting all the graphics to the highest levels as well and it does nothing as well. I'm just hoping someone comes along with a decent answer to this issue. I haven't found anything myself yet and I'm not the only one facing this problem. If I find a solution, I'll let you know.

There is a camera light that can be toggled by pressing L key

Yes, I wrote that I had the camera light off. That is not the issue.

There seems to be more issues like yours popping up. It does seem to be an issue on Macs. File a bug report with fromtier.

Do you think they'll do anything about it with how old this game is? It seems they are more focused on Planet Zoo now... which I really would like to play.

I've submitted a bug report to frontier games about the issue. Hopefully anyone with the same problem will help me make it more noticed by the company.
