The Planet Coaster team has already said that they have no plans for a water park DLC for Planet Coaster. That wasn't meaning they're won't be a separate Planet Coaster game including water parks. I for one love water slides, hopefully they will create a water slide after Planet Zoo, again I say, they're fully capable of it. ;-)
If you wanted to for now which is what some people are doing, they are creating water slides with only shapes and special effects, just keep in mind, nobody will ride it...
But hey, don't give up hope, Planet Aqua for Planet Coaster 3? Fingers crossed... >_<
Can't be sure, but there is already a Planet Coaster 2 which is Planet Zoo, so a 3 with water slides?? Water parks have been in high demand from fans for a while now...please Planet Coaster team, make everyone's water park dreams become a reality!
Unfortunately, the Planet Coaster team doesn't have any plans for a water park DLC for Planet Coaster 1. I find it quite strange myself that they won't be doing it seeing RCT3 Platinum had all 3 in the one game, that was a older game. if there was a option to bring it as a DLC, that would be one big expansion they would have to create. Planet Coaster itself is a major improvement but for the devs to bring everything like coasters, water parks and animals into one Planet Coaster game...so like it starts out with just coasters, then they bring water park and animal DLC's. Not sure if it would take too much space, or is simply not possible for them to do. But hey, Planet Coaster does have some water rides if you add up all the DLCS. I reckon if they did make it all into one big game, that would create serious issues with the game, such as lagging/stuttering, game crashes, FPS struggles etc...the game might be too big for lower performance CPU's. That's just my opinion, but I do really wish it was the same as RCT3 Platinum with all 3 in the one, would've been amazing. All we can do is wait and see what they come with I guess...just be patient, there still is a chance that there may be a separate Planet Coaster game that includes water parks. It will be very realistic in graphics I reckon, and I'm pretty sure it look and feel more super realistic too :-)
It's just that they have no plans for it at the moment, they're working on Planet Zoo. Hopefully a PC 3 will have water parks in future planning in their minds. Planet Coaster 1 will still be a popular game, I'd say it will still be on the store for sure, you won't loose the time and money, most players are loving the game and are making amazing creations.
Planet Coaster 1 was popular when it came out. When Planet Zoo came out, everyone has moved onto that one more than Planet Coaster 1, mainly cause it's new, so if a third Planet Coaster game came out containing water parks, it just means it will be more popular but that doesn't mean people will leave those 2 just to play the water park one. People do have a good heart for the previous 2 PC games, people will still play it. For those that are thinking of getting Planet Coaster or Planet Zoo, go for it, both great and relaxing games. Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo are one, if not, the best theme park constructing games out there :-D
They'd need to upgrade the graphics API to DX12 or Vulkan which is a huge undertaking when you have a bespoke engine.
Essentially it comes down to the cost of doing it properly being so high they'd need to price the DLC at a rate people would not be prepared to pay.
However....
There is always a possibility that a graphics API overhaul is already underway and costed as part of Planet Coaster: Console Edition which is due out around the time of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X launches. It also needs to run acceptably on current gen consoles and Frontier have stated it's not just a simple port, they've rebuilt the game from the ground up.
If there is a graphics API overhaul on the way then the PC version will reap the benefits of this work and as a bonus this also removes a lot of the cost of a potential water park expansion as they'll easily get a return on that investment from purchases of the game on console.
It would still probably cost more than a typical DLC but nowhere near as much as if they would have had to factor in the cost of a graphics API overhaul. Plus they'll have more potential customers with console players.
As to a new game, unless they're farming PlanCo games out to third party developers* there's nothing on the cards for the next 3 years or so. Frontier have 3 internal games on the go, all licensed properties.
* This is not impossible, Frontier are currently publishing 5 third party developed games but any developer taking on this task would almost certainly be expected to learn to use Frontier's bespoke engine.
