Sandbox but with limited funds?
I sort of got the game for management aspect alone, I've never been big on creating my custom rides and whatnot in RCT etc.

I was hoping for a sandbox / career mode where you start off with a small sum of cash and move up from there. No challenges, no restrictions, like a proper tycoon experience.

Was a bit bummed out you can only start sandbox mode with unlimited funds, completely neglecting management part and career or challenge modes don't seem to be what I'm after.

AFAIK in career mode you manage parks through scenarios and once you 'win' the scenario you're done with the park, onto the next one.

Challenge mode seems a bit more confusing, but I don't think it's what I'm after here.

In a nutshell does this game currently have proper management themed tycoon mode, where you start off with a small set of cash and then all sandbox-y from there on out, except you still gotta research stuff and you don't have unlimited funds?

I don't want to be forced to play e.g. challenge mode and then move onto new park to start from scratch.

Cheers.

That is career mode - you start off with a certain amount of funds and two rides and you're on your own from there¬

Just ignore the challenges in chellenge mode and I think you have what you wanted. Soemthing where you have manage your money and build your park over time. There is no reason you have to complete the challenges (I am not talking career mode).

Would I be able to start a new park in challenge mode, run it how I see fit, possibly ignore challenges and keep playing the same park for years (in-game) to come?

Or how is the time managed in this game, would it 'end' Tropico style in 2020 for instance?

I beleive the answer is yes, for years to come. I don't think you ever "complete" a challenge park, you may run out of challenges, but who cares if you are ignoring them?

No it's unlimited length of play.

It's just sandbox without the unlimited money. It's called challenge mode as like in RCT3 you get money for completing various challenges, however you don't have to claim these if yuo don't want to and they are completely ignorable unless you click on the challenge part of the notifcations.

Yeah i completely agree i got the game for the same reason. it seems ridiculous that such an easily implementable option is not available in the game. all they have to do is make the starting cash configurable in the scenario editor and they're done. i cant believe how detailed the game is and it doesnt have such an elementary option.

You have a timing issue. The posts in this topic prior to yours are all from November 2016, the Scenario Editor was implemented in the 1.4.0 Anniversary Update on November 22nd 2017. Starting cash is configurable in the Scenario Editor, as is a whole bunch of stuff (you don't need Objectives if you don't want them, for example), which can then be Save'n'Played as a Custom Scenario.

I've got some Custom Scenarios up in the Workshop (Windows, they won't be compatible if you're playing on a console) if that'd help.

Two points:

One, you never "complete" any park in any mode. You can complete all the Stars in Career Mode, then just keep on going. In Challenge Mode, the game will just keep inventing new challenges, I expect probably even after becoming repetitive. And of course, in Sandbox Mode, you'll never run out of sand.

Two, there is a scenario editor if this is the kind of challenge the OP wants. Just open a Sandbox, convert it to a Scenario, and set the "starting conditions" and the "win conditions". Then save the Scenario and start playing it. "Starting conditions" like starting cash or available loans. You'll need to be able to buy at least one ride to start, so don't try starting at Zero.

I've never done this personally, but I have opened some of the pre-built Career scenarios in order to unlock some of those beautiful buildings so I could use them elsewhere.

These days I always check! I don't know why newer players keep necro'ing topics -- I think it's an issue with Steam's search-sort coding. This one's literally from Planco's launch day!

That having been said, if newbies are doing searches that find older topics, then (however outdated) that's the info they're looking for, and on Steam's default theme the dates are kinda hard to see. Patience, current info (or more current, at least), and maybe some helpful links are the way to go, IMHO.

Speaking of helpful links -- some here are to Shyguy's World, which is closing soon:
