Can't see or build the underground layer ?
Can someone set me straight if I've missed something ?

It's sad how, when you look a a franchise, you'll often see more and richer features in original games conceived years ago, and an erosion of those features in the modern versions and some ♥♥♥♥♥ calling it "streamlining".

Why can't I build underground ?

It's especially glaring to me because of all these pre-made maps where people arrive in tunnels.

(I don't really like pre-made maps, it's a design game, let *me* design it from the start. And it's a tycoon game, so let *me* create the money making/losing elements with some kind of challenge to the sim)

So...

The game has people arrive in tunnels (would much rather see a massive car park somewhere and a theme park entrance).

But I can't build, modify or destroy any of these underground tunnels ?

Someone needs a condescending pat on the shoulder.

I know they're just games .. but it's nice to have games that have consistent and believable physical rules for their universe.

Eagle-view of this map .... where are the theme park guests coming in from ? Mountain ranges all around the park. No roads, no parking lot.

But ... a lot of underground tunnels, I guess. Tunnels through several layers of surrounding mountains, in fact.

Tunnels that I can't see or interact with.

Kinda trashy IMO.

Yes, yes, I'm nitpicky. But .. c'mon.

You can use the terrain tools to make caverns and tunnels and then you can place paths and rides in them. You can't make a tunnel while putting in paths, but if you use the leveling tool at around the right size for a path, you can make tunnels everywhere and then lay down paths in them.

You can't place rides or paths IN the ground. If you want a ride in a cavern, just dig and bit hole, flatten the bottom, put your ride there, and then use the terrain tools to cover the ride. It's not quite like RTC3 so that's confusing.

You can also click the check box for auto tunnel when building coasters and track rides.

I hope this might help you do what you want.

Thanks Narad. I think that's a bit of a gamey approach to try and have a feature that's clearly just been left out of the game...

It's like paths .. I mean .. if I'm missing something I'm eager to learn - but it looks to me like paths are designed to go from point A to point B .. so you can't build wide open areas with attractions and distractions .. benches and picnic tables or whatever .. for people to congregate and rest...

It looks like there's only one type of food (beef) and one type of drink (milkshakes) .. but .. I'd like to build a concession area .. a kinda food court .. and then fence off a little area with tables and plants ..

But it looks like paths are designed only to go in a (straight curvy whatever) line .. so you can't have a path that is 3x wide, for example ??

There is quite a bit to learn. You can build plazas. It just a little hard to find. While in pathing, click "select gird" and then click a path.....from there you can lay down huge plaza. If you put down a wide path (8-10M) first, then us it to align....you'll build a large plaza quickly. Make sure you terrain is super flat or you'll find it finicky.

If you open a sandbox park, you'll be able to see all the different shops (click the custom tab to get out of the premade designs and just to the individual shops).

Just a suggestion: You seem to really want to slam the game first rather than just ask questions. This community can be pretty helpful if you ask for help rather than trying to trash the game before you figure out how it works. There's alot to learn and some have been playing the alpha versions for 6 months. There are some really helpful tutorials on youtube if you search them out as well. (not just the ones from Planet Coaster Developers).

Best of luck, There's some tricky and unlike RTC3 aspects to the game. Have some patience and play around a bit.
