cpu only at 65%
hi guys!

my park has around 15.000 people and now only 3 fps left.
i know that is nothing strange so far.
i have a 1080 and a i7 7700k with 4,2 ghz. and 16 GB ram.

my problem is, the taskmanager says my 1080 is only on 35% and the CPU is between 60-65% (all task together). after some google research i switched priority of planet coaster to high, nothing happend. still only 3fps at 65% CPU and 35% GPU. ram is also only 9,7 GB from 15,9 GB.

anyone an idea how to get the cpu up to 90-95%?

greetings
mombie

Your park has 15,000 people?? Wow!

thx, but it is not well enough organised to run it with less. i play challange mode and with 15.000 i make just around 10.000/month. as soon some of the good coaster are broken and the people go down to 14.000 i make minus money.

so i cannot limit the guest to lets say 10.000 or so. of course i could put away some dead attractions in my retro area, but i do not want to. because i could easy go up to 17.000 if i open my last 2 roller coaster. but 3fps is no fun anymore.

i would understand if my card is at 90 or more important for guests the GPU is at the maximum, but only 65%? need to go more. or better, i hope there is a way to get more out of it.

to all with the same problem, i found this:

https://forums.planetcoaster.com/showthread.php/28656-Current-CPU-Optimization-issues

maybe it is useful. specially the last from "tyczj" explains a lot of different possible actions which could cause the problem.

my visions are always to big for the games in the end. if they would put in waterfalls i would save more then thousand water fountains. but that wouldn't help to fulfil my visions either. so sad :D ... would have loved to push it to 20.000

still, if anyone has some tuning tipps, i will welcome!

nothing in the grafik settings from the game. i tried all and it doesn't effect for real. no matter if high or low, the only thing changes is the GPU between 20-40%. the CPU always around 60%.

but if you have a CPU tuning tip, would be great!

thx so far!!!

Im at 12,000 guests 5-7 fps.

:(

with 10.000 i am around 15 fps and more (depend on the area). not perfect, but quite ok.

but my park is so big, with 10.000 it feels empty. if i would knew before (my fault, could have read some forums), i would have planed different. less ways, people more in the middle, coaster arround to the outside, so that the ways look full with only 10.000. i just builded to big.

but i cannot restart. love my park and spent so many hours on it. a bit frustrating. guess you know what i mean with 5-7 at 12.000. poor we :D

It's the DX11 render thread making everything else wait. You don't see it in task manager because it doesn't show small spikes. Which is exactly what is happening, for every frame, and the rest of the game has to wait.

^ that is correct. DirectX 11 draw calls are bound to a single thread, which is unfortunately a bottle neck for Planet Coaster's performance.

I honestly don't see why they don't just make the game DX12. Anyone too stubborn to upgrade to Windows 10 isn't going to be any benefit as a customer. Very few, of those very few, will be buying any DLC. Screw em. They can upgrade to play PC. Nothing is stopping them but thier own ridiculousness.

You can't just make the game obsolete for approximately 40% of your playerbase (64bit Win 7/8/8.1). Frontier would be liable to pay refunds for affected customers in this scenario and based upon financial reports to the stock market they've sold in excess of 1.6m units at this stage. 640K potential refunds would mean many millions even if many of these sales may have occurred during pricing promotions.

It's not likely to happen this way until that number is much lower. Windows 7 extended support runs to January 2020, Windows 8 extended support runs to January 2023 so there's no immediate need for anyone to upgrade yet.

This would probably be for the best but Vulkan would probably be the better choice IMO as they won't need to worry about the refund scenario in the future with a graphics API that is fully compatible with Windows 7, 8 & 10.

FDEV is absolutely working on either a DX12 or Vulkan render path for their Cobra Engine, in fact they use one (kinda similar) for their Xbox One / PS4 releases already. However, the real question is when and IF they ever will release this for PlanCo. Personally I don't care which route they go, as long as we see ANY modern renderer on this game. I would honestly even pay for this - just to have it done already. I'm not blaming them for holding out as long, both require extensive rewrites of their pipeline... but c'mon, as if this bottleneck was something new or unexpected :TongueGuest:

i honestly doubt that they will bring out an update to dx12. read a lot of forums and most of people think it is just to much work for to few "maybe" new customers.

i have around 250 hours on it. so i am not angry. got a lot of fun out of it. but still it is very sad, because i would have spent another 250 or even more in it. because it is so much fun. but the lag is to much and building small parks for around 5000 people is boring.

Yeah thats FDEV in a nutshell. As long as ppl are happiuly buying these "DLC" packs, that add only cosmetics basically - they probably won't. As I said, they already use these render paths on their console ports, most notably JWE. But yeah, you're probably right. Same with Elite, development is stagnant for years so ;D

It's just sad really, this game would probably be THE best case scenario. At any rate - PlanCo and even JWE are very good games. I think most ppl complaints are coming from this corner - make something good even better.
