How does Hydraulic Launch work?

I thought I'd have a go at making a coaster with hydraulic launch. I've gone for the Zenith 5 coaster.

I've started the track with a 14m stretch of hydraulic launch straight out of the station, and then it goes onto normal track. The track has no slopes or inclines.

I've tried changing the settings for the hydraulic launch section, but everytime I test the coaster the train just rolls out of the station, slowly over the hydraulic launch, and then comes to a stop. There's no acceleration at all.

What am I missing?!

As soon as I've asked the question, I've found the answer. 14m is apparently too short for a hydraulic launch. I've extended the launch section to 40m and it now works as expected.
