As for common sense, if the game properly explained these things to you I wouldn't have to ask and look up these articles would I?
Maybe someone else should be using common sense to understand that as new players do suprisingly have questions when the game doesn't teach or tell you these things!
However, it seems that the value of the props has a greater influence than quantity of props. So, a cheap building might cover the whole queue, but it won't be particularly impressive. You'll have a rating above 0 for sure though.
Duplicate props do have diminishing returns, that much is known.
