I've found that if you don't put it right in front of the shop, they are usually ignored.
Once the park gets more full of guests they will sit down at the picnic tables. Also don't put down to many. I have a standard of two per shop and works fine.
Something extra i noticed : peeps with drinks won't sit down, only the ones with food.
Extra note : get red of those bins in the middle, peeps tend to avoid those when walking, they can be to close to the tables. Set bins on outer side of plaza.
The problem is that sometimes they leave trash on the table (even though there are empty bins nearby), and no one will use the table while the garbage is on them.
You'd think that your janitors would take care of this, but most of the time they just walk right by. The few times I've seen them try to clean the tables, they seem to get stuck in an animation loop, over and over. I once had 4 janitors all trying to clean separate tables in my food court, all of them locked in the same loop. As soon as I deleted the tables, they resumed their patrols.
I like the idea of picnic tables, but there are a few bugs to iron out first.
A said it a bit wrong I guess... They do sit down with drinks, but not as often in comparison with food. That's what I noticed, but as it seems it's not the same for everybody. Also the animation loop for janitors, and them not cleaning tables I've never seen in my game (yet?)...
Hmmm... I'm using the Scenario Editor, where I set the janitors to "Enthusiastic", I think... maybe that's the problem? I'll do some testing tonight. Might explain why I'm not seeing many other people with this problem.
Might also explain why my rides no longer break down (at all) - I set my repairmen to "enthusiastic" as well - maybe that's what's bugged??
