Can a seven year old understand and play this?
My 7 year old saw this game on youtube and now he wants it because he loves roller coasters. Would he be able to understand it?

I think he could have fun with the sandbox mode yes. But I don't think he would have fun with the career or anything.

I would recommend Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 on steam for a 7 year old. It is a lot more developed and easier to work with. I myself am still not very pleased with a lot of the aspects of this game.

If you find some decent people who do tutorials on youtube it is very easy to follow along. Without knowing your child it is difficult to say, it took me a couple of hours of trial and error to really find a good way to play this. If he is patient and willing to learn it is worth a shot. However, it is cheaper to see if he would like RCT3 first before spending full price on this. RCT3 has decent enough graphics and it's cheap and should run on any computer. Planet Coaster needs a pretty beefy computer to run it in the bigger parks.

Let's just get back on topic. For a 7 year old, I would recommend an old Rollercoaster Tycoon game if he has a weak system as well.

Example: http://store.steampowered.com/app/285330/RollerCoaster_Tycoon_2_Triple_Thrill_Pack/

My 6 years old enjoys it and he has his own park.

Well, I would probably suggest RCT3, if he is a seven year old, the coaster creator is a lot more complicated, and since hes seven he probably doesnt understand friction and degrees so he could get frusterated easily, so RCT3 is good for him until he is 8 or 9. The WorkShop for PC has a wider variety and more though. Hope I helped,

Another factor to consider is how much (if at all) are you going to play it with him. I would say yes if there is a fair amount of support when he's getting started. My 8 year old daughter plays it, but needed a lot of help getting started (and still needs help from time to time).

I actually find it is a great way to introduce math and physics to my son in a fun and playful way. He now understood potential vs kinetic energy, friction, momentum, and basic multiplications (he's going to grade 2 now) to calculate how much to charge the rides etc.

As stated by the other poster above, you need to spend a lot of time playing with him but it is one of the most rewarding game I've played with my boy.

Don't sell your kid short, any age can make something in this game and it is a great learning tool.
