Am I too stupid to play this game?
I don't even know. I adored Rolercoaster Tycoon 3 as a kid, it's one of the best games I remember. But this... I'm not sure if it's the game or if it's me, but nothing is satisfying. I feel like a failure, all the time. I don't know if it's the controls, or if I'm really just a man with no imagination for architecture or the skills to use tools that don't even require physical manipulation, and who has just gotten too old to happily ignore that fact any longer. I don't want to play in sandbox, because in a world without consequence nothing you do can matter, but even in the easiest of challenge modes it's painfully obvious that every decision I make is a net loss. Spending money becomes terrifying and I always end up just closing the game without saving, after every crooked path and every bush that wil never be put in the right spot reminds me that nothing I build will ever be worth this pain. I hate this game, and I hate the man I am for hating this game.

Hey,

I recommend that you watch some videos on YouTube to get some inspiration for Planet Coaster.

For example; these tutorials:

Good luck!

It does make it hard that there are no in-game tutorials, and that career mode isn't really a tutorial in itself... the tasks aren't set in a way that helps you to learn as you play, it's probably one of the biggest flaws for players to begin with - getting started sucks. Definitely get on youtube though and have a look at some of the tutorials, it cleared a lot of things up for me.

A typical early acces game that you had to be with from the very start. Same as ED. Frontier is messing around

Yeah, I you have experience with any of the previous RCT titles, than just about everything here should be pretty self-explanatory. But if you never played those games, getting started may seem a bit overwhelming. Watch some Youtubers play a bit, it should help explain a few things better. Some of them even have tutorial vids, so be sure to check those out too (especially if you want to get into the advanced side of creating things from scratch).

What does this have to do with anything?

The OP talks about a grave fact of life for him and for a large number of people, including myself. SimCity, Minecraft, RCT, and even to a lesser extent Civilization, all make me feel like I'm a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ uncreative human being that can't strategize to (literally!) save his life. There is still this overwhelming feeling that I'm only missing a very specific piece of the puzzle, and if I could find it my entire life would flip upside-down for the better.

Hm... Nope. Not yet, about fourteen years later.

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDES, are you crazy! Planet Coaster is AMAAAAAAAAZINGNESS! O_O :steammocking:

I mock because it's mocking and mocking is for people who call this game those names that deserve more attention, Planet Coaster is NOT a finished game yet, wait for more updates bud and wait, wait, wait, keep waiting, then you'll see. Planet Coaster is very similiar to RCT3, same devs from RCTW helped to make it. They are bringing more updates so don't go around complaining about it unless it's lag issues or some other problem similiar to that. People will see this and it will start an arguement, because imao, Planet Coaster is a REALLY good game. Not many here will agree with your statement neither. Except for carrer being too hard, now that's true.

I also played RCT3 when I was a kid, and I loved it was well as I love Planet Coaster, hear me out...

Wanting RCT3 to be updated to Planet Coaster is a big ask, Planet Coaster is much better graphics and it's quite a new game, so it definetely needs allot more working on. If you want more realisim, then play Planet Coaster for it's a great real-life similator game.

Planet Coaster above anything else, needs some serious patch fixes, look at ARK Survival Evolved for instance then look at this. They are working so hard to fix ARK and they did, can do the ARK map on HIGH settings on a computer that isn't fit for gaming, and the graphics for ARK are very good, much better than this anyway.

If the devs for Planet Coaster work just as hard, you'll get a lag free result and a RCT3 more like game.

That should be good enough Mortipatton, only upgrade if you absolutely must.

As your park gets bigger with more people and more rides expect a drop in FPS!

@94adamtp :

even if you don't like sandbox - i recommend to make your start in sandbox mode. testing this, testing that. make small efforts here, huge efforts there. and if it's really such of a no-go for you to use sandbox as a tool to improve - may a little hint: in career mode (and in competition mode) your first action should be this : PAUSE the game. then you have time to first check what you have (money, rides, shops and personal), what you need (bins, seats, more personal, more rides, more path, more money, whatever) and then decide your next steps and work out what you can until you have to test something and are forced to continue the simulation. at any time, feel free to PAUSE again. this makes it really easy to master the entire career mode, even if you are the worst scenery builder on earth.

I feel your pain. I am a RCT player from back in the day. Luckily I watched a great youtuber play on the challenge hard mode before I purchased the game. I suggest you do that but I can give you some advice. The biggest thing is forget about real life and don't consider the prices of things like you would in the real world. You need to increase to prices of everything until the people start to not pay and then lower it just enough to get people to pay. If a shop is not making a profit shut it down until you can get it to make a profit. Scenery is key in this game. Add a ♥♥♥♥ ton of scenery to the queue lines and pretty much everywhere. Also think about the people's travel times and if they are in queue a long time. People standing around or walking are not paying you money. The key is to start making money then you can fine tune it later. When you start a new game pause it and make a simple path and add 1 flat ride, 1 bathroom, 1 drink shop. Get those fine tuned to make a profit and then go from there. The start is rough.
