Homophobia and Misogyny in Tropico 6
I have something maybe slightly fussy to say, but having a nun try to convince me to be homophobic every 10 minutes using an in game pop up is a little much - I'm talking about the nuns (religious faction leader's) request to terminate same sex marriage.

I understand that it's all for the immersion, but Tropico 6 is a little too immersive, the the Catholic church is a little too real on Tropico. So I would appreciate it if in Tropico 7 we skipped on gay marriage or abortion, these are real life issues that people in many countries get traumatized from, lose their lives over or spend their entire lives advocating for a change. I doubt the intention of game makers was malicious but I also doubt there is a single gay person or a woman in the developer team making decisions since this slid by in such a violating and bracing way. The whole experience is bracing if I could use one word to describe it.

And I know how city simulation players are, in before you come harassing me saying "I'm trying to spread woke culture onto your favorite game" its not my intent. I'm just saying its very hurtful when games are considered a way of escaping and relaxation or creativity and some people have to face oppression even in games because to some others it's considered immersive or freeing. I'm not forcing anyone to change I'm just saying its preventing me from playing the game because I don't feel like waging a mental battle with the game and trying to justify and validate my experience. So I just started wondering how many people gave Tropico 6 a hard pass because of the homophobia.

And before you ask my credentials I've been playing Tropico since the original release 15 years ago and I purchased every generational copy since, and back then it was possible to go without deciding between denying people the right to marry.

The whole colonial time era, the gay marriage, the abortion, I feel like all of these ideas were not really thought out and putting them in the game in such a form is actively excluding gay people, black people, women. That's money left on the table from the sale of game copies for the publisher because the game is so blunt with the way it tackles these themes and discourages certain people from buying it and playing it.

It just feels wrongful when I know the game actively makes some players think "oh removing gay marriage will give me in game privileges" or even worse just spontaneously deciding to exercise their inner homophobia and choosing to not allow it and the game facilitating it.

Well the fun thing about Tropico is that its YOUR choice if you want to kneel down to the suggestion of the church to remove a Civil Liberty to make "God" happy or ignore their disgusting decision and let the Gays do whatever they want! The two opposing sides need to exist in the Tropico Series to keep things Dualist or whatever.
Dont you see the intrinsic joy in getting something realized that will improve everybody's life even after aggressive opposition from an out of touch Boomer?

they are the traditional church faction. those are traditional catholic beliefs.

most of the factions are pretty cliche as well no splinter faction voices or even your multitude of other factions with varying beliefs.

what is up with the militarist faction and their infatuation with weapons. those things hurt people.

Not s solution to the underlying problem but does this stop if you set the political situation to 'atheist state'?

Definitely feel for you here and would support the removal of this 'feature'. It doesn't presently cause me any problems personally but I can see how that's something that would turn someone off the game. On the other hand, I would spend my time enacting all the progressive policies I could just to defy the in-game crazies. If I can't control it in the real world, I sure as ♥♥♥♥ will in my fantasy one!

They definitely need to bring back the Cutthroat Edict "Outlaw Faction" from T3 back!
"It is time that the faction of your choice pays for its unspeakable acts against the government and be outlawed forever! Nobody will mention it ever again, and you will sleep safely, knowing that they will not plot against you. Yes, many of its supporters will surely rebel. Let them discover the true meaning of the title "die-hard supporter" as the Army chases them down one by one. Which faction do you want outlawed?"

You realize you're a dictator, right? set it to atheist state and get your propaganda machine going. You can play as an atheistic militant or a religious philanthropist if you dont underestimate the power of propaganda.

ALso as someone who is gay, the religious faction is my second favorite, behind the capitalists

Just report him and move on.

To the OP, this is literally the world we live in. Opposing factions with radical views. Fascists and authoritarians use extremist views to control the populations. It happens as much in democracies as dictatorships. Balance your moderation of your people or control them to be how you want. The choice is yours. No need to white wash history or entertainment because of difficult choices and views that don't match your own.

You mean like basic voting rights? Something which you can do in Tropico, and is even an objective or seriously beneficial choice?

OP, you're kind of a joke. I'm not calling you that, but you are literally acting out a stereotype of a joke right now.
