Multiplayer co-op?

Most of the information about multiplayer I can find is quite old. Has multiplayer improved any co-op functionality in the last few years or is it still parallel play or war and that's pretty much it?

Still pretty much the same - the same 12 maps (I wish they'd ditch the territory system, or make it optional and just let us use any/random maps like in Tropico 5)

The newest building - the trading post is in the game, but it only really lets you send resources you produce to other players and that's it. It's better used to get wild export multipliers for specific resources
