Why can't I build bridges throughout my island and why do the maps have difficult terrain? I went from Tropico 4 to 6 and I do not find it better

Bridges have building restrictions that I don't particularly enjoy. Length, for one: drag one out too far and it turns red and won't get any longer. You also have to be at the same level on each end (same with tunnels). And you can't build bridges in the Colonial Era at all. The Romans were bridging rivers 2,000 years ago, you'd think short spans would be possible in the colonial period. It would be nice if the maximum bridge length got bigger as the eras progressed, to represent advances in technology and engineering.

Anyway, you're not alone if you prefer T4 to T6.
