How does multiplayer work?

asking cause im debating getting this with a friend but I cant envision how a game would play out.

Hi Nexxus,
it is more or less up to you, how multiplayer looks like.
You can play against your buddy and setting specific goals that need to be achieved to win, like e.g. value XY in your Swiss Bank account, reaching Era XY, commulate XY of many in Tropico's treasure and so on.
Imagine it somehow to who is the better El Prez ;)

Will just add to that in case you haven't already bought it.
It's possible to play as allies as well so your armies will go to help each other in terms of invasions/uprisings.
