Tropico 6 without DLC vs T5 w/ all DLC
That's the boat I'm in. Interested in spending some time with a city builder and the charm of this series feels on point for what I want.

Is the 6th game in a good state, and is it worth playing without any DLC
or should I go back to 5 since I own all the added content there?

6 has many of the features of 5 complete but it also has a lot of small bugs and many details are missing like the Propaganda audio for the blimp or Factions reacting to your politics and newly placed buildings. Also the Parks are pretty grotesque compared to 5.
Thats what comes to my mind now but there are plenty of other bad things about 6, its like having mobile devs make a PC game isnt a good idea huh?

oooph, mobile devs? That is way more of a red flag to me than I wish it was.

Tropico 6 is the first Tropico game I’ve ever played. I beat all of the vanilla missions and had a blast doing it. I got Tropico 5 for free through Epic Games and when I played that I was surprised at how substantial the quality of life improvements were between 5 and 6. Tropico 6 seems so much more intuitive than the previous games just based on UI features and infographics.

I think the new devs have made the game extremely accessible to new players like me, but the missions still range from “follow the prompts and win” easy to extremely challenging (The Referendum and Tropicoland missions for me).

The game is frequently on sale. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Tropico 5 is funnier in multiplayer, but otherwise T6 is an improvement across the board

T5 had numerous unpopular and annoying mechanics, such as managers, scouting, dynasties, and a very small cast of NPC's (each faction head leads multiple factions, which is a massive immersion breaker for me). T6 fixes all that, and its own new mechanics like raids, wonders, boats, and multiple islands are much more elegant and immersive.

That said, if you buy on sale and shop around, you could probably get T5 with all its DLC for under $10, cheaper than T6 on its own. If you're a newcomer to the franchise, it be a low-risk way to try it out. T4 is generally considered the best entry in the franchise, but as someone who played T6 first I found the lack of QoL a big turn-off.

Most of us are just going to block you, ignore you and forget you exist a few minutes from now. Have fun being irrelevant, you won't get much attention from anyone once they all block you.

I'm just being polite enough to tell you good bye and we're done here.

Would you rather have scouting and managers instead?

Yes because then it would be possible to get job quality above 90 again in all workplaces. While were talking about what should be brought back from 5;
Its economic balance is much greater compared to 6, nothing Limbic input made any sense at launch, it was so bad in fact they just increased Tourisms ROI by like 15x in Summer 2019 lol
Its Parks were so pretty and inspiring as well, they should just replace the bad bollard filled parks of 6 im sure no one would mind
Its Edicts were better as well. Commuter Program, Geological Survey, Mardi Gras and Social Engineering + Smear Campaign were simply unmatched.
The Constitution options were more sharp as well, Economical types are so much more interesting than the 3 Medical ones. Why are Hospitals by default only for the middle class and above? Wtf Limbic?? Also choosing between Fighting Piracy and a Free Internet was peak Tropico👌🏻
Hmm I wonder what those Hanemont folks are doing nowaday- oh ohhh they are just making the best Simulation-Strategy games of our generation. Oh bless them...

To be fair, I haven't actually played much of T5, though I've heard TotalBiscuit and Quill18 rip into it over those systems. I actually bought T5 on the recent summer sale to see what it's like; after all, I loved Anno 2205 despite the much-deserved criticism it got (mainly for the frustrating naval combat). However, the camera seems completely broken on GFN (a slight touch of the middle-mouse causes the framerate to plummet), so I haven't played it much. I might give it another chance.
