Help with tourism
I am playing the tourism mission and designed an island for thrill-seeking tourists with every thrill-seeking building, every type of hotel, no shacks/poor quality houses, plenty of cabanas, 3 tourist docks, a police station and parks. They are all on maximum budget/job quality and fully staffed. I have every +tourism edict and constituional right active. I'm using the hackers to boost tourism ratings on repeat cycle. I need 25 thrill-seeking tourists at the same time.

After 30 years I've had about 3 tourists in total. Have I missed something??

Is tourism broken?

It is. In general (tourist buildings having very little profit) and for this particular mission (tourists just don't come).
Waiting for patch numero tres, I guess.

I've found that putting the hotels and other places where tourists stay on max budget makes them unprofitable even if they're always full. I do max budget some of the service and entertainment buildings though.

I've found that saving, and then restarting the game will fix the problem of tourists not arriving. I think the game gets into a weird state sometimes and regular restarts of the program help to keep things working well.

Thrillseekers are easy to attract. Use nightclubs, skyscraper hotels, snorkeling, tour guide, and hang gliding.

Hang gliding and snorkeling always make a profit.

The other thing people really overlook is the tour guides. I demolished the hotel on the hill and did a backpack tour to the empty spot left behind and I was making $500 a month.

If you have a cluster of entertainment buildings and use the Insider mode for a tour guide that attracts thrill seekers as well.

Tourism can make a profit, it just has to be done just right.
1. Tourists need to move around quickly (otherwise they clog customer slots from miles away) and kill your customers a month and profit.

2. The efficiency has to be high on max budget. The higher the efficiency the more they charge for a fee.

3. Use other building bonuses, like radio, rum factories, teleferic stations that increase efficiency.

4. Certain buildings get a beauty bonus of about 8% efficiency for maxed beauty.
They are:
Tavern, Botanical Garden, Golf Course, Cocktail Bar, Beach Resort, Hang Gliding, Funfair Pier, Cabin, Beach Villa, Cabana Village, Scenic overlook, Ethnic Enclave, Family Resort and Cruise Ship.

5. Multiple tourist ports are needed. If you want rich tourists then you need to have one tourist dock set to luxury mode (Yacht club will not work until then.)

6. Customs house tourist fee, you really need this because even with some of your stuff seeing a slight loss the sheer number of tourists can generate a lot of money.

7. Steal wonders asap because they increase your tourism ratings overall. The higher your tourism ratings are the more tourists you attract. You ideally want at least one of each type of building for each bonus to attract the most tourists of that type.

The way I see tourism is it is the income that keeps you from bankrupting between freighters.

every single topic about tourist problem devs will ignore it

Well this isn't really the forum for giving bug reports, to be fair.

Messing around with a tourism only island. So I took a shot of this Tour Guide Office.

It does flux between like 200-900 a month currently.

Thank you, BoredPeon for your detailled explanation.
So tourism is not bugged or broken, it works just differently than most players may think intuitively. Is there an official statement somewhere confirming that this is intended? Maybe from Unerde?

Well it is not completely broken, it jsut ends up broken due to how the visitor system works for buildings.

Tourism has fluxuations in the income. You can look at the profits on a building and one month it is negative and another it is positive.

Also you need to make sure your tourist docks stayed staffed. Shortly after the last post my tourism economy fell apart because the workers on the tourist docks decided to work elsewhere. So I got hit with "next boat in 38 months" which this was only after I noticed, it could have been a ridiculous amount before then.

I did almost get a bus line to make a profit though. Kinda cheated by making a stop at the tourist dock and using the bus to go farther inland to the hotels, then they rode it back to the entertainment area near the docks. The thing I have figured out that while a bus line costs you money, it kidna makes you money due to people moving around faster.

At the moment, I would recommend avoiding the missions where tourism is the focus.

Why because it seems hard?

Tourism is working just fine. People are just not understanding it.

In the tourism mission I just focused on economy first and focused on wonders and few tourist buildings. Got it quickly with the airport and a huge amount of buildings around it.

I haven’t done the missions, I never did in any tropico:) played them all in sandbox.
But tourism is fine in tropico 6. Perhaps not working as intended or in a way that is obvious to some players but it’s definitely possible to make islands where your main or only income is tourism. Up until people gets lost in parking deck or tourist decides not to come anymore, even though your rating is 99+ or any of the other bugs that effects the game no matter how you play, but that will get fixed, I hope (or I want my money back)
This is actually the first tropico I think, where you can have massive amounts of tourist. I’ve have a couple of sandboxes with over 1000 tourist at a time. In previous games, where was a hard of soft cap on them. So once the bugs gets sorted, this is by far the best tropico game for tourism (and imo the best topics period) so get to work devs! ........ Or else!
