Kalyplso Media is Scamming its customers.
Lets start with my Situation.
I have been playing some of Kalypso Medias games over the years.
However 2 weeks ago i recieved a letter from a lawyer acting in their name (Nimrod).
They claimed that i illegaly up- and dowloaded "Disciples: Liberation".
I did not know this game before looking it up after recieving the letter and i have not done anything with it.
They did not accuse me of it, they claimed that it was a fact and wrote about a 2500€ damage to their sales, but made a "generous" offer with an 800€ out of court settlement duo within 6 days after recieving the letter.

After doing some research online it turns out that they have been doing this for about 10 years. If anyone here does not believe me, you can find a lot of cases online.

I think it is an extremely predatory practise, high fine with very little time to react.

I have settled things with my lawyer, but it was a waste of money and very stressfull.

I will never buy anything from This company again. This is not a way they should be treating Customers.

I wish nothing but the worst to Kalypso Media.

it is already sorted with my lawyer, a dirty practise non the less.
And as this has been going on for 10 years, there is no excuse for Kalypso.
They know and the dont care.

I see it as a personal attack on me and will try to spread it as much as i possibly can.

It doesn't sound like anything Kalypso did. If you actually read what I posted this is a scam that German lawyers use because there's no penalty for false filing in that country. They can put any company on the header.

What would you like them to do? It's totally random, it could be Take2, or Rockstar Gaming etc. The company have nothing to do with it. It's like saying "I will never buy anything from Africa because I have recieved a scam letter from a false nigerian prince."

^This. It's your lawyers scamming you, not Kalypso.

Falls for a scam and posts about it? Now I've seen everything.

I did not fall for it, i did what everyone with half a brain would tell you to do.
I didnt ignore legal threats and had to protect myself agaisnt the offchance of Nimrod following up on their claims.
Suprised by the amount of people willing to ignore legal threats, its not about being right or having "done nothing wrong", if you dont defent yourself you lose.

It's not that people ignore legal threats.

It's that other people understand the difference between a legitimate legal threat, and a pretty obvious scam (you mentioned that you never, ever even heard of the game they claim you stole - that's should have been a *huge* indication that the "lawyer" who contacted you wasn't actually a real human being.)

German Law does not work the same way US law does.
Perhaps it would have been fine to ignore in another country, but here things dont usually work out in your favor if you ignore something.

Did they ask you to pay with gift cards? That prince of XYZ country asking to be paid in gift cards sure sounded legit.

Have you ever stepped foot in Germany or had any interaction with Germany? You think there law has any bearing on a US citizen?

What have or can you ignore in the US? A summons that was handed directly to you? A court case that was due to a ticket or jail time?

Interesting to see how such scams actually work on people.

That's a very fair point, but generally speaking, the EU has more strict consumer protection laws than the US does.

I can't imagine it's very common for some strange citizen, falsely claiming to be a lawyer, to sue another individual for an imaginary crime.

its an actual lawyers office, and not some random dude in his basement though.

I now claim to be a lawyer and not a random dude in my basement. Since you fell for this obvious scam I must advise you to cease using the internet.
