Yes I had the boat construction line , not the rum . Which one is the best plantation?

Although I did see some discussion that boat isn't really that profitable, especially on maps with little trees. I tend to stick to Rum and Cigar and venture to other exports in later eras as rum became quite useless later on.
Ok so it's better to start with Rum and some mining . But I don't understand if the boats are profitable or not .
The other problems are the mandatory missions in the campaign
