Tropicans! Are you stuck getting past the Colonial Era? Perhaps you're not making any money. Or, are your goods not making it to the Dock to sell? Help is at hand!

Since political support seems to be a confusing issue for some, I made a guide:

For Building & Island Design:

Do you struggle with island efficiency? Does it seem like your Tropicans "never show up to work"?

Take a look at the Tropico missions. You don't necessarily need to PLAY them (although they're quite fun!), but look at them & see how the devs designed them. Many missions already have optimized transportation networks & have needs addressed. You can see what the devs did & then replicate in your own sandboxes.

For Homelessness:

Do you build big neighborhoods of apartments & see nobody live in them, instead living in shacks?

Keep in mind the following....

1. Residences are per FAMILY, whereas the almanac lists homelessness per PERSON. An apartment has room for 10 families - around 20 to 30 people, depending on your child amount. Without child subsidies (the Colonial era edict), apartments will be in less demand & tenements will have more demand, as children otherwise reduce family wealth.

2. Tropicans like to be near services & work, but prioritize proximity to work over proximity to services. Having a bus stop and/or metro and/or teleferic near both work & the residence helps a lot.

3. You'll need to build lower-density, cheaper housing for far-out areas. The "Better Red Than Dead" mission has a great example of this & how to address it in the World Wars era.

4. Check your citizen wealth in an area. Your farmers aren't likely to be well-off, for example. Checking the almanac can help a lot, along with education requirements for work (education is a rough ballpark of wealth, as higher-educated jobs tend to pay well).

For Supply Chain Inefficiency:

Do your teamsters keep sending coal for export when you want to keep it for steel production or power? Does it seem like your cannery never makes anything? Consider the following:

1. As you progress into later eras, pollution makes a big difference on plantation fertility. Take a look at pollution around your plantations & consider relocating them.

2. Also as you progress into later eras, you may build healthcare buildings, more advanced entertainment, and other buildings. Tropicans will try to fulfill these needs by visiting those buildings - and while visiting them, they aren't working. Selecting "Atheist State" makes workers more efficient (they aren't taking time off work to pray anymore), but may have other consequences....

3. You can disable auto-exporting of goods via the Trade screen. So for coal, you can uncheck the box for "Coal" in the list of trade goods & it won't export unless you assign a trade route for it. It'll instead stockpile in your dock(s).

4. Are basic needs addressed near your outposts? If you don't have a decent church, grocer, entertainment, and food around them, your Tropicans may be walking over to the main area to satisfy them.

5. Not all buildings are as efficient as others. Lumber mills usually need ~3 logging camps to stay at max efficiency, for example, whereas a single coal mine & a single iron mine can sometimes supply 2 steel mills on their own.

For Faction Relations:

Do you always get threatened by the environmentalists? Did you suddenly get an ultimatum from the communists? Read further!

1. Almost all buildings impact factions positively and/or negatively. If you decide to set up a wealthy neighborhood & plop down 10 mansions, that's -30 relations with the communists & +30 with the capitalists! Not all of them are 100% intuitive, but some are. Take a look at the almanac to see what buildings do what to faction relations - you can find out once you build something.

2. Rejecting demands can add up over time. Using the Broker to purchase distractions & convincing talks can help.

3. Try bribing the faction leader. If it's a faction leader who is also part of a faction that hates you... perhaps an "accident" is in order, or a visit to the asylum.

How do embassy and church interact? I notice that buildings the affect each other turn the non-highlighted one blue, and when I went to place an embassy, a nearby church turned blue.

Hello there,

the radius around the Embassy only shows how far the reach is for quests.
For example, if Russia wants to have 90 Beauty around the Embassy - the radius will show the reach. Hope this helped :)
