Parking Decks and Free Wheels as only mode of transport? Is this viable? Issues?
Title says it all. I am trying to get better at Tropico and trying to learn how best to place buildings and use mass transit, and the appropriate distances to use to keep walking at a minimum. I think from what I have read utilizing 9 tile blocks / subdivisions is optimal for walking citizens. So if you were trying to keep walking to a minimum, and you were trying to do an only parking deck and free wheels kind of set up. . . would it be as simple as placing parking decks no further than roughly 18 tiles from one another?
And do you have any insight on parking deck efficiency, and how to know if a parking deck is overloaded or you need to place even more parking decks then simply one every roughly 18 tiles?
Thank you for reading this far

parking are great and dangerous since they have the 10 car bugs per month so great for underpopulated area and bugged for more so use buses for those area and subway of course.
And do not forget high FUN provide speed bonus to your tropicans!

Hi there,

I can also recommend the Edict 'Speedway' if you are using mostly Parking Decks!
From my perspective, I use Parking Decks the most and I think they are one of the strongest options for transport :)

I would not go as low as one every 18 tiles because you are asking for the animation bug with so few car decks.

I would also suggest trying buses out as Tyraria said. Buses arely every make a profit, but you do make money with them because it reduces away time for workers.

Question about buses, are the citizens smart enough to do bus transfers, say you have two bus lines set up, one from point A to point B, and another from point B to C, will the citizen use both bus lines to get from point A to point C?

Also what is the parking decks animation bug? And does everyone experience it or just some players?

Only if the the worker needs to go to point C after doing what is needed at point B.

The game is limited to how many people can exit the parking garage because each person exiting has their own animation. So when it becomes overloaded the queue to play the animation makes the people be "lost" until their turn comes around.

Oh okay thank you for the info! So say the citizen didn't need to do anything at point B, just get from point A to point C, would they be smart enough to take the first bus from A to B, then walk over to the other bus stop at point B, wait for the bus in the other bus line to show up, and then bus from B to C? Hoping what I said makes sense lol

Basically I'm wondering if I could lay out my bus lines like a grid, like a sheet of graph paper

No. The AI is going to figure out the shortest route from where they stand when they decide to need something. It would then walk to the nearest mass transit that takes it close enough.

That would be entirely unnecessary. Bus stops are really simple, you put one stop in the middle of your work area, then the other end at a location with all your services.

@LaPresidenta, are you / Limbic aware of this issue Bored Peon and Tyraria mention where Parking Decks will allow citizens to enter them faster than they can exit them?

There's a bug report forum
Patient May 7, 2019 @ 7:51am
Okay I will check if it is reported there thanks. Just wanted to double check that they were aware of it
Patient May 7, 2019 @ 8:06am
Okay so it has been reported before, some of the other bugs have developer replies but the parking deck issue didn't receive a reply yet. In any case thank you everybody for the advice and the warnings. Viva Tropico

Does the free wheels edict make it so poor people can use the parking garages, then?
