The graphics in Tropico 3 and 4 were "good enugh", honestly I was happy with them and never really expected anything else. Then came tropico 5 and completely bogged down my PC even on the lowest settings. So, the question is... since Tropicos come in twos (the assets and graphics) will Tropico 6 be murder for anyone who likes to build large islands?

Tropico 6 is probably going to end like Tropico 5 as in the fact that it won't be playable for a very large part of the fans of the series due to the advanced needed graphics card and DirectX version.

I think that they should stop trying to get 'the best' graphics out there when it comes to city-builders. Most of those games already slow down due to all the assets present in those games (animated citizens, buildings and objects) and having these super-high requirements will make it worse.

Honestly if your PC was getting bogged down on the lowest setting on Tropico 5 it might be time for an upgrade because you certainly won't be able to run Tropico 6.

Hello everybody.
For sure we want to have Tropico being accessible and playable by all players, but as this is simply not possible and we also wanted to keep up with the time that progresses on along with technology, we simply wanted to provide an overall new Tropico experience, which also comes with a new engine and new possibilities to let Tropico shine in tropical glance like never before.
Nevertheless it would be great, if you could share your system specs that we can have a look into this and either give recommendations or simply to see what the average machine of our fellow Tropican players looks like.:tropicoflag:

I understand OP's point, but i myself am getting a little tired of building games that look even worse graphics wise than games i played 2 decades ago.
Sometimes a game like this does not need fancy gfx, but imo, Tropico does.

When you are not singing edicts or deciding if you really need that 3rd rum factory, it is also nice to sit back and look at what you have build up. Watching the sun reflecting over the waves, seeing the trees wave etc.

And i am also happy to hear about the new developer. This series needs something fresh. Some new ideas. I nearly played them all, just not part 2. It is a series i really love. And it still is a concept that you can do so much with.

O.o

I'm running on a Win10, 16 GB Ram (just for Kerbal needed), the old in 2011 delivered Sandy Bridge i5 2500 and a R9 280 on max settings easily islands with 4000+ population.

That's not a high system.

Actually i have 2500 population at 70-75% CPU usage, Ram usage shows me 430 MB. No stutters! And on the last 25-30% CPU i have Xmedia Recode running to convert a video.

Far away from ressource hungry.

will your new engine and all that jazz use multiple cores or will it still bottlekneck and get laggy if you have a high population?

I don't clearly understand OP's point of view. Gaming on PC has alwas had the advantage of being high-end oriented but also budget-friendly.
You can buy a desktop PC with a reasonable price, and upgrade it only when a new game arrive to match the minimal specs.
And since now we have 2k/4k resolutions as a standard, it is really easy today to have a okayish config that runs games well in 1080p.

Tropico does need in my opinion shiny graphics, it is more about enjoying the tropical landscapes and the life of your citzens than looking at tables and sliders like other management games.

I completely agree. I hope they go all out on the effects and texture resolution. Even modern midrange GPU's have tons of Vram to make Ultra high resolution textures a reality. They really need to make good on the graphical effects so that we can really appreciate our island. It shoulden't be an issue though hopefully. Tropico 4 came out in 2011 and that game still looks good imo.
