TLDR: No, just no.

I grabbed this in a bundle and installed expecting a basic mahjong game with a bit of a story glommed on and maybe some light RPG elements, something like a mahjong version of Regency Solitaire or Chef Solitaire. It is definitely a mahjong game with a bit of story, if you consider the character's proceeding from a monk to a couple more monks to her true love and hearing a couple stanzas of poetry from each a story. She walks from puzzle to puzzle, and while you solve she continually pulls something out of her pocket (presumably the one ring as often as she checks to make sure it's still there) in an animation that it took me a third of the game to realize wasn't her scratching herself. But of course all of that is just window dressing and is unimportant if the mahjong itself is good.

It's not. It looks and plays like the basic mahjong you can play on any number of free or paid apps on any number of platforms. But it's missing one aspect of those that I consider to be kind of crucial: IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO LOSE! Without the possibility of failing this is really not so much mahjong as it is just matching things until the game is over. It has a shuffle button that never runs out and will continue to rearrange the tiles until you've cleared them all. Even if you whittle the game down to two matching tiles stacked on each other it will rearrange them so they can be cleared. After about a third of the game I sort of realized this and stopped playing strategically. After about half I started actively trying to make the worst possible matches in order to engineer a loss and see what happened. I failed miserably, the game just won't let you lose.

So since there's nothing to recommend the "gameplay" and there aren't Steam cards I could only recommend this to maybe the parent of a slow child who needs a self-esteem boost. Anyone else would be better served by literally any other mahjong game out there.

Classic Mahjong. You don't know japanese? That's unnecessary. You don't know its rules? This could be a good starting point.

They could have made a classic mahjong game, with tiles organized with random schemes but actually the game starts with a girl walking on a path looking for her beloved. You will stop sometimes to talk to some characters that will give some words of wisdom, or because reasons, and in that moment a new mahjong scheme will pop up. The game really starts from the basics, and slowly progresses and increases difficulty explaining new rules and situations. This makes the game a good starting point to learn how to play mahjong.

Made with unity, it doesn't exactly shine in any way, models are low-poly, textures are simple and there are no particular lighting or effects. However it does its job and doesn't get stuck nor crashes.
Music is simple and quiet but not outstanding. Even though the purpose is to relax while playing I've heard older games with better music better fitting a japanese traditional game like mahjong.

Not much, the only thing is that the sidestory doesn't capture too much attention and the difficulty curve is very slow as it takes various sets to get to more complicated and challenging schemes. The biggest risk is for those who already know mahjong like me, who would just like to play it, but have to start from zero.

• GOOD START. It starts from zero and explains all rules and possible situations with a slow learning curve, and set by set you wil get more challenging situations.

• BORING FOR "PROs". If you already know the game starting from zero might bring to boredome after a while, considering the sidestory isn't much endearing.

This is a variant of the typical mahjong games, with the exception that it is not restricted to the standard count of tiles. It starts of with simpler, one-layer puzzles, adds multiple levels, and after "midnight" starts making the puzzles more complex. It will use more than four of each tile, if it needs to; don't trust counting tiles to determine if any of a specific face are left. Play time for me is about seven hours end to end, but I'm pretty good at these sorts of games; only had to hit the shuffle button 4 times in all 74 puzzles. Note: It does autosave, but runs through the opening or midpoint "cinematic" every time it starts.

Imagine you're a young girl walking down a path. Along the path are monks who want to read you bad poetry. In order to hear (or, more accurately, read) this poetry, you must play Mahjong, but fortunately the puzzles are arranged in such a way that it is literally impossible to lose. Also you have a pair of tatas that jiggle up and down at the slightest movement like two water balloons filled with wet pudding. I'm told the music is pleasing.

It's not terrible I guess, but there are better Mahjong games out there. I can't really even recommend it to guys who would be interested in the lead character's improbably bouncing bodice because you only get to see that during the rare moments when your character faces the camera. Seems like an egregious waste of booby physics programming if you ask me.

Gets repetitive and boring really fast. Barely any challenge for people who already know how to play Mahjong. Plus like people said: You can't lose. What's the point? The story element and automatic walking also didn't add any value to the game. Was a nice idea - but not properly executed.

This is a cute game. The puzzles get more challenging as you go on, but it would be perfect for beginners to mahjong and the young. the story behind the game is a love tale, punctuated by poetry.

Note: for those who are a bit more experienced with mahjong it can get a bit tedious...

If you enjoy Mahjong Solitare, I very much recommend this game. It's a cheap game and is great for the price.

The good:
It's enjoyable and very much what you would expect. The gameplay is how it should be, with a very fair learning curve. This is accompanied by beautifull graphics and a great sound-design.

The bad:
While the sound design is great, there seems to be some issues. Sometimes the musiccomes out of only one headphone in my headset. The orientation of the music seems to be relevant to the cameras orientation, so I think they've somehow added it as a 3D sound that gets broadcasted in stereo/surroundsound.
The UI is kinda cluncky designed. It doesn't hurt the game as such, but it's a shame when the rest of the graphics are so great.

All in all a great game with few and only minor inconveniences, that can easily be overlooked because of the price.

I thought it was a mahjong with a real story and a character to move as in an adventure game, but it's just poetry and a girl walking a few steps automatically beetween the puzzles (which are impossible to loose)...

Mahjong Destiny is a typical Mahjong style game that subtly better than most generic Mahjong games. The reason why I say this is that the level buildup difficulty is subtle, and it is hard to fail in the earlier levels. The actual way the game play is smoother than some other Mahjong games (tho there are a lot of Mahjong games on steam). However, there is no menu really to the game, and there is no level select which really annoys me. Overall, I'd give this game a neutral, but since there is no neutral button I will leave it a recommend.

Very simplistic mahjong style game with some cutesy story. This makes other casual games look like rocket science. 3/10 not worth your time.
