So they decided to make the game free to play. That's really cool. They also decided in their infinite wisdom to remove every basic feature and call it an "update". Removed Party system, removed Matchmaking, removed Ranked, removed the Economy system of search and destroy, removed Voice chat, no Anticheat, and confirmed that they will once again stop supporting the game. There is literally no reason to play this, stay away.

Edit: The developers at Bulkhead are promoting their game called KillRun. This game was originally a different game before they also abandoned it. So they're currently 3/3.

Edit: A developer has confirmed on the steam discussions for KillRun that they will only be supporting it for 12 months. Meaning they will be 4/4.

Edit: Bulkhead has removed all steam discussions on KillRun for release. They charge about $5 for the game. They promote it with a prerecorded developer live-stream with developers pretending to be viewers in the comments asking questions.

Shooters like Battalion 1944 live and die by how they are supported. At the launch out of early access in June 2019, the game had a competent start for a low-profile shooter with nearly 10,000 CCU. That number has since dropped to about a tenth of what it once was.

As its playerbase spirals downward (leaving certain regions dead), most people who are still left defending Battalion 1944 say it will "get better" after they ship some updates from their roadmap. They mention that support will continue for "years to come." The CEO of the developer, Bulkhead, routinely posts on reddit to reaffirm that they are focused on squashing bugs and shipping content. They should be; the game is caught in a trajectory similar to that of 2017's notorious blunder Lawbreakers.

On more than one occasion, however, the developer not only refuses to take consumer issues seriously, but passive aggressively attacks them for criticizing the game. Hit registration problems and unreliable anti-cheat are two hot topics in the Battalion 1944 community, and posts by users on the subreddit that discuss these issues (among others) have historically been locked or deleted at the request of the developer. The CEO gave up his moderation rights on the subreddit recently to comply with the site's EULA, but his tone whenever he posts has not changed: "we're not trying to deny these problems exist, we just don't want factually incorrect information to spread."

Bulkhead are quick to defend their actions by saying users are spreading "false information." The problem with this approach is that, as the developer, you are permanently inserting your professional opinion that the issue has been looked into and decided upon. Users are now far less likely to look for ways to fix such basic issues as hit registration *for your benefit* because of the continual vilification of such discussion on the Battalion 1944 subreddit. Any healthy developer of a healthy game would react very differently. They would try to silently alter the conversation by trying to reproduce what users are talking about and fixing the issues they detect. The most useful conversations your users can have, Bulkhead, are those that they have when they think you are not there. If the problem exists, fix it; don't tell users how to discuss it. It will make the game harder to fix if your users are afraid to talk about problems.

Time and time again, the CEO of Bulkhead will insist that hacking reports and bugs should be reported via e-mail instead of posted on reddit. Perhaps it is a more useful way to message the developers, but any good developer understands that they are serving the consumer and not the other way around. Posting problems on reddit is the new normal. We use reddit because the public nature allows significant issues to get a lot more visible traction that developers can then clearly see the impact of. If a lot of people comment on one issue versus another, they know where their priorities should be. If you don't like that, tough. If you're afraid of bad press, then fix the game instead of telling users to keep the problems to channels where they can't be picked up on by potential buyers or journalists.

At this point, even if the game somehow makes a miraculous comeback and becomes legitimately popular, I will still struggle to support a developer like Bulkhead. It is clear that they are very actively concerned with message control surrounding Battalion 1944's very glaring issues. Instead of putting their heads down and working on them, however, they continue to tell their userbase how to behave to put up a front of success even as the CCU dwindles. Their flippant, frequent stubbornness is anti-consumer and has no place in video games. I regret my purchase.

This is a DEAD game, don't waste your money on it. I can't even play competitive, arcade is full of bots..because there are no players..check steamcharts. Save your money for something else!

Literally the scummiest developer I have ever encountered.

I was a Kickstarter backer who waited months post steam release for a key and never received one.

I tried contacting this garbage company in so many ways i lost count. Finally I got fed up and went to complain on Steam Community. One of the developers actually tried to talking to me which seemed great, until that dev immediately became hostile and refused to help get me the key i paid for, because it was somehow my fault they never sent me a key for a product I had paid for. All of my info had been up to date the whole time and I had responded to every survey and email they sent me. After an unbelievably hostile and long conversation with one of the most unprofessional people I have ever met, I got so fed up I threatened to release the whole conversation and incident anywhere I could.

The developer responded with even more belligerence and rudeness but surprise, surprise thanks to the threat of bad face I immediately received a key.

Basically I was an idiot who wished for a fantastic new WW2 shooter to play with friends. Dont be an idiot like me, stay far, far away from battalion 1944, and stay even farther away from anything current or future coming from Bulkhead Interactive.

Edit: They are offering refunds to kickstarter backers. A small silver lining for a very troubled and disappointing game.

Honestly.. In the current state (F2P with no anticheat, no ranks and no future) it's worse than COD2 from 2005. I was really hoping it might be alternative for this masterpice, but now best i can do is just uninstall.

游戏是个好游戏，至少在手感上是比同类型的二战游戏好



但是延迟是加速器都救不了的高，试过三个不同加速器都是在300左右。除非出了亚服，否则不推荐入手

Battalion 1944 is a game that captured my interest during its Kickstarter campaign so I decided to get it when it got launched into Early Access but if I only would have known what I know now I would not have wasted time or money on this game.

Battalion 1944 is often compared to my all time favourite fps game Call of Duty 2 but I have a hard time seeing the resemblance. I can agree that the WW2 theme is present in both games and the weapon arsenal is comparable but at the same time that resemblance is also lost when you see players running around with neon-coloured weapons. I am fully aware that this game is not aiming for realism but to destroy the art style and kill the feeling of the era by adding weapon skins that have no connection to the WW2 theme is ridiculous in my opinion. In the same vein I also don’t understand what the skins have to do with a game that tries to recapture the feel of old fps games. If they for some reason have to be a part of the game (as an extra income source for the development) couldn’t they at least be true to the chosen setting of the game?

While on the topic of visuals it also baffles me that this game lacks a consistency when it comes to how things are presented. I mean how come the player has gloves in first-person view when the third-person models do not? During the early stages of the Early Access both the first-person player model and the third-person player model were uniform, but for some reason they did not update the third-person model when they added the gloves to the first-person view. I thought this would be fixed for full release, but it is not fixed to date.

When it comes to Battalion 1944’s game mechanics I am pretty sure many cod4 promod players are a lot more happy than those who wished for a worthy cod2 successor. Neither cod1 (except cod uo) nor cod2 had sprint but instead you switched between your main weapon and the pistol when you wanted to move around faster. This I would have liked to see in Battalion 1944 but instead they took the route of cod4 which means the movement and pace is built around the sprint.

I feel I’ve given this game plenty of chances to win me over but the vision that got presented in the Kickstarter and the end result (as in the fully released game) are way too dissimilar. Neither are these latest patches giving me much hope that the game somehow would become fun and engaging since they all seem to be focused on adding more cosmetics that, in my opinion, for the most part don’t even fit the game.

I don’t think I’m alone in wanting Battalion 1944 to be more in line with cod2 instead of this odd mash-up of cod4 and CS GO (which are great games on their own). I also believe this is reflected in the current active player base.

I usually don’t write any reviews, at least not of this length, but my disappointment in how this game that had a lot of potential has turned out inspired me to write this.
